I am in need of a good book. Any suggestions?

Title says it all, really. I'm in need of a good read. Something having to do with the supernatural/spirit/ghost world would be nice.

And if you can, when you suggest a book, I'd like to know a bit of what it's about, other than the obvious - it being a ghost story.

Thanks!

A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb (one of my all-time favorites)

Helen died 130 years ago as a young woman. Unable to enter heaven because of a sense of guilt she carried at death, she has been silent and invisible but conscious and sociable across the generations. Her spirit has been sustained by its attachment to one living human host after another, including a poet and, most recently, a high-school English teacher. While she sits through his class one day, she becomes aware of James and he–unlike the mortals all around them–is aware of her as well. James, who also died years earlier, inhabits the body of a contemporary teen, Billy.

The Bone Doll's Twin, by Lynn Flewelling (first of a trilogy)

Young Tobin had the misfortune of being born female in perilous times, in which high-born females of all ages are being murdered by order of the king, to ensure his son's succession to the throne. Years earlier, King Elrius usurped his sister's rightful claim to the throne--an act that abrogated the divine protections set over his people, bringing plague and war to the land. There are those who would see the divine prophecies honored, however, and a warrior queen restored to the throne. So Tobin is disguised by means of dark magic that conceals her true gender with that of her twin brother, who was killed at birth, but not fast enough. He drew a single breath, which was enough to keep his soul earthbound and horribly angry. Tobin will indeed be queen, but only if she can be protected until adulthood from her insane mother, her demonic brother, and every evil wizard in the land.

Anything by Mercedes Lackey is good, Tamora Pierce, Philip Pullman, most Trudi Canavan books, Frank Beddor, Rachel Caine, Andre Norton, Katie MacAlister,

A Great and Terrible Beauty, by Libba Bray (Another trilogy, and a huge favorite of mine)

Gemma, 16, has had an unconventional upbringing in India, until the day she foresees her mother’s death in a black, swirling vision that turns out to be true. Sent back to England, she is enrolled at Spence, a girls’ academy with a mysterious burned-out East Wing. There Gemma is snubbed by powerful Felicity, beautiful Pippa, and even her own dumpy roommate Ann, until she blackmails herself and Ann into the treacherous clique. Gemma is distressed to find that she has been followed from India by Kartik, a beautiful young man who warns her to fight off the visions.

    Happy reading!

OK, I don't know if this will be your cup of tea, but I can say that one of the best books that has a supernatural/ghost theme to it would have to be "Expiration Date" by Tim Powers. I don't know what you're looking for in the book; i.e. if it's something like "Twilight" or anything, but I can say that this is nothing like Twilight.

It's about a bunch of people that live in Los Angeles and are connected in some way with ghosts. Peter Sullivan has been around ghosts all his life, he and his sister were unknowingly used as a "mask" for a woman who would feed off of ghosts. Koot Hoomie Parganas is a runaway kid who happens to have the undigested ghost of Thomas Edison stuck in his head. Kootie and Pete each have their own seperate stories that eventually combine to be about the groups of people that live in LA that ingest ghosts in a quest for immortality.

I think this book is amazing, but if you're looking for something that's romantic you're looking in the wrong place here.

Also, there's a fair amount of violence in the book, and I think maybe even a little sex. But nothing too explicit.

A Certain Slant of Light-by Laura Whitcomb This is truly the most amazing ghost love story I have ever read!

James, who also died years earlier, inhabits the body of a 17 yr old Billy. James and Helen fall in love, he shows her how to inhabit the body of a person whose spirit has died but who still lives and breathes, and the two begin to unfold the mysteries of their own pasts and those of their adolescent hosts.15 yr old Jenny, whose body Helen now uses, is the only child of strict religious parents who controlled her beyond what her spirit could endure. Billy's spirit left his body after a string of tragedies resulting from drug abuse and domestic violence. James and Helen court in both modern and old-fashioned ways; here is a novel in which explicit sex is far from gratuitous or formulaic
