How to get off brown wrapping tape off a wardrobe mirror?

Have tried scraping but think it needs a solvent. What would you suggest? It's been there about years. Advice appreciated.

Hi there, I notice all the answers so far advise solvents of some kind or another, which would worry me if your tape was anywhere near a finished frame that could mark.

My first choice would be toothpaste, any kind, pop a small amount on a sponge or on the area of tape, just a small amount which you can increase if required, apply enough water to make a foamy cream and rub, dry of when finished (works for lot's of marks on hard surfaces)---bosshogg

Use nail varnish remover on a non lint cloth if you do not have any white spirit or turpentine. Leave for a few minutes to soak in. Apply a little more if necessary and rub off. Any stubborn sticky bits can be removed with a pencil eraser. If you have varnished wood I would be careful near these areas. Protect floor with plastic or old thick piece of fabric just in case.

You can use a single straight edge razor blade with some glass cleaner. Make sure the blade is new, and gently slide it in a single direction (not back and forth) making sure there is always plenty of glass cleaner. BE CAREFUL cause its very easy to scratch the mirror if you don't do it right. Practice on old picture frames first.

Meths (rubbing alcohol if you're American). If it's been there a long time, soak a piece of tissue in meths and press it against the sticky patch. Leave it there for ten minutes, then clean with a cloth soaked in meths.

Warning. Meths leaves your mirrors sparkling - you'll just have to do all the others in the house now.
