Is it even a realistic option that Democrats didn't know about torture techniques?
The more information that comes out the more it looks as if Democrats knew about torture and were simply posturing during an election year. Is there a scenario where the democrats didn't know that could make sense? Are you telling me that democrats had no friends in the military, that Democrats had no interest in going to the prisons and seeing how they worked? Please show me a scenario backed by references where the Democrats didn't know. If you believe they did know what facts do you have to back that up?

It's possible. They may have known, but they didn't have any power to do anything about it anyway. I see your point, but to me, the issue is moot. The Republicans were in control and did what they wanted.
The big question is whether now, with the Democrats in power, it is still allowed. I certainly hope not. We voted them in so they could change things exactly like this. What the Democrats do now they have power is what counts.

Even if the Democrats knew, how does that excuse what the Republicans did? Only a Republican or a two-year-old would think it makes sense to say, "Yes we did something illegal, but it's all the Democrats' fault because they didn't stop us."

Sure the Dems knew about "torture." It seems odd that at this points the Dems claim they support going into Iraq based on the faulty info they received at the time.
Are we naive enough to believe that the emotion and danger of the times shouldn't have dictated our plan of action? How ridiculous is this? If a person is sitting watching helplessly while their family is held hostage in a building at threat for bombing, doesn't that person do whatever is possible to save their family?
Same is true for us, we can't look backward and "change" or condemn what we felt and did at the time. Then was then and now is now.

"Option" is not the right word. "Story", perhaps?
As far as I know, this torture was backed by the White House, not by Congress. That said, it's hard to say whether or not Congress knew about it.

All politicians lie. I don't care which party, they play cover their own @ss and find somebody to put up front as a scapegoat.
If they didn't know what was happening they are too damn stupid to be in the position they are.
