Can you add hot food to already frozen food in the freezer and re freeze?

We made too much spaghetti sauce and want to add it to the container of spaghetti sauce in the freezer and than freezer it again.

I dont think this can be done but my husband does.

It should not be done! I mean you can, But to do this properly first leave the hot sauce out until it is very cool then add it and refreeze. I have worked in many restaraunts and also in a college cafeteria and i was always told "never put any hot food back in the fridge or freezer, let it become very cool first" why ,? I forget, but you shouldnt add it hot....hope i have helped in some way .

  • I don't like doing it--my recipes or tomatoes varies and can make an off taste, besides, you will be melting some of the frozen, better to thaw and heat up the frozen, add the leftover, and freeze it again.

I usually package sauces in 1 quart bags, enough for one meal at our house. Or you can free sauce in ice cube tray and then when frozen, store all the cubes and use as many as you need. You can do this with the leftovers ... I do it with soups, vegetable soup, chicken soup, and gravies, but I never freeze potatoes in mixtures or pudding. I also make individual cheese cakes in large muffin tin, so we don't eat it all at once. Keeps the calories off the hip.
