asking your opinion on 12 month old?
My son just turned a year old so we are in for some big changes.I want to take him off the pacifier(he only uses it for sleep)he is on whole milk sippy cups but for the last week we have been giving him a night bottle with next step formula this night bottle is such a comfort to him. So I want your opinon how long is it ok to keep giving a night bottle? how old was your baby? Please dont be rude im not asking how to raise my son just what you think.

First of all, I think you have done a grand job if your son is already down to just a bed time bottle! I'm mum to Sean 8, Ross 4 and Niamh 3. . . I've found that over these years, weaning and advice has changed dramatically! Example - When I had Sean, mums were advised to start weaning at 4months. When I had Niamh, weaning was encouraged no earlier than 6 months. The advice you get are based on text book guidelines and averages and as all us mums know, each babies needs and requirements differ massively. In my opinion, the best thing you could do for your son is let him guide you! He'll let you know when he is completely ready to be without these comforts, nobody else.

It was not fun trying to take the pacifier away from my son he got very attached to it. Don't take away bottle and pacifier at the same time though. It is easier on yu both if you stagger it a bit. I think they reccommend to stop bottles at night at 12 months. I gave mine water instead of milk and after a few sleepless nights he finally got the hint. It wasn't easy though. I did the same with the dummy when he was about 2. Took it away and he had a little puppy that he slept with to comfort him. We had a few sleepless nights and tantrums but he got used to it. I think you just have to put up with the screaming and be consistent.

You can give your baby a night bottle as long as you want. Adults need to drink milk let alone babies but its good that you give him sippy cups now than bottles with nipples. Feed him solids or baby food at meal times and give him milk when he's about to sleep, withdraw the pacifier slowly, hide it or take it out of his mouth when he's asleep.
He will slowly change his feeding patterns and eventually he will depend on solids/ baby food and just ask for milk when his sleepy. Don't forget to have another sippy cup with water on it as an alternate for milk, he needs water as well. Give him his water sippy cup everytime he finish his milk.
