Blackberry Pearl without internet (verizon wireless)?
Hi,
I'm interested in getting a Blackberry Pearl from the verizon wireless website because it's free right now. Is it possible to get it without internet (i don't want to pay $30.00 a month)?
I talked to a Verizon store employee the other day who said the Blackberry company had a contract with verizon and the only way to get rid of the internet would be to deactivate the phone. Has anyone tried/would it be possible to get the phone with the internet, then cancel it immediately?
Please only answer if you have had experience with this.
Thanks in advance
chunky char i didn't give you thumbs down...
thanks everyone for the answers

No, it is not possible to purchase a Blackberry device without an internet plan anymore. Verizon signed a contract with RIM (Research In Motion AKA the company that owns Blackberry) stating that whoever purchases a Blackberry device has to purchase the $30.00 data plan.
It's not possible to purchase the phone with a data plan and deactivate the data plan once you get the phone...if you deactivate the data plan, you deactivate the phone altogether.
The only ways you can get a Blackberry without a data plan is if you switch to AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile because of the fact that RIM hasnt signed any contracts regarding data plans with those carriers.
Trust me, I know what im talking about.

Yes it does I think you need to pay $20 a month for the internet...even if you don't use it. At least that was what I was told when I went to Verizon

With Verizon, if you get a Blackberry you have to get the internet with it. That's the contract they have with Verizon. But why would you want the Blackberry without the internet? I thought the same thing with my Palm, but now I use the internet everyday.

i Just got the new blackberry pearl, and I had 2 options of what i wanted.
Email, Internet, and Unlimited texting. I could get all those if i wanted or my other option was unlimited texting.
So yes there is a possibility of not having internet. The price would be different too if you didn't get internet. It would be cheaper. But either way you have a choice of having it or not.

No. My fiance just got a blackberry and one of the "rules" to getting it for free is you have to sign up for the internet, which as you said, is $30/month
I'm not sure about the deactivating and that though..
thanks for thumbs down when i'm just giving my honest experience

I've had every blackberry from the 7290 - the 9000(bold), and i think its a safe thing to say read the fine print. if they will allow you to sign up for it then drop it right away then good luck? but otherwise i don't think they will let you seeing as that's the hook to make the phone free.

I did that with AT&T. They just do that to make more money, you dont have to have a data plan, even with the Iphone. they just have to block all DATA.
they are a buncha cheap ****s. God i hate big corporations.
