Heartburn solutions, anyone?
Apart from Tums and Rolaids, does anyone have any home-made solutions. I've tried Ginger candies and they work well. Anything else you'd suggest? I'm 23 weeks along; sudden, merciless heartburn began yesterday with no warning. Thanks all!

Oh man, I know how you feel. I had it so bad that I thought I was having a heart attack. Zantac and TUMS weren't helping at all. It was the worst at night. The Dr put me on Prilosec OTC and my husband raised the head of our bed 4 inches onto blocks of wood. I hardly ever had any trouble at all after that. If I did I took a swig of Maalox advanced before bed. Medicines like tums and zantac only treat the symptoms of acid reflux where medicines like Prevecid and Prilosec stop your body from producing the acid in the first place. So you don't even have the heartburn. Talk to your Dr about Prilosec. It worked wonders for me.

I totally understand wanting to use home remedies versus medications, but in my case I wasn't so lucky.
I tried just about everything I could possibly try with no luck.
Eventually I broke down and started taking Extra Strength Zantac 150mg. Worked for a bit and then started to not work anymore.
Just got a prescription from the ob/gyn today for Pantoprazole. It's a PPI (Proton Pump Inhibitor) to acid stop the production of stomach acid all together.

Try drinking lots of dairy products throughout the day.
For example, drink lots of milk... drink at least three cups a day.
Eat yogurt or cottage cheese for breakfast/snacks.
For a tastier treat, buy those yogurt "tubes" and put them in the freezer... Frozen yogurt is delicious.
Another thing that might help is just taking calcium pills.

I took Zantac and it was wonderful. My doctor gave me a prescription strength one, but th over the counter stuff worked fine too. I thought my heartburn and indigestion was one of the worst symptoms, but that stuff saved my life!

glass of milk
eat a dill pickle or drink a little pickle juice
drink some vinegar
or a little juice from red beet eggs
yellow mustard - eat 1 teaspoon and wash it down with a glass of water. tastes nasty but supposed to work REALLY well for PG not so well for otherwise....
pepcid, zantac, and prilosec OTC are all safe to take during PG if you want to....
