What is climate expert congressman Henry Waxman talking about?
Climate expert Henry Waxman - the congressman who is the author of the climate change bill now being debated in the House of Representatives - during a recent interview on NPR withe Tavis Smiley made the following statement.
“We’re seeing the reality of a lot of the North Pole starting to evaporate, and we could get to a tipping point. Because if it evaporates to a certain point – they have lanes now where ships can go that couldn’t ever sail through before. And if it gets to a point where it evaporates too much, there’s a lot of tundra that’s being held down by that ice cap.."
This is really scary stuff... evaporating North Pole and tundra being set free. How can this be happening and what can we do to save Santa and Rudolf from sharing the plight of the soon-to-be extinct Polar Bears.

One would hope that a person who is attempting to pass legislation to protect the climate would at least be aware of the fact that the North Pole is located over the open ocean. There is no tundra being held down by the ice cap at the north pole. In regards to the ice "evaporating" what a silly term to choose to describe an event which occurs annually. Every year sea ice forms and sea ice melts.
Those who like Waxman would have addored other historic baffoons like Heinrich Himmler, Nero and "tail gunner Joe McCarthy".
An idiot left on stage long enough will eventually act as the fool he is! Yeah go Henry. Keep up the good work.

I'm sorry but other than showing what a point idiot Mr Watts is i'm not sure you have a point, quote from Watts
"Let me go on record by saying Waxman is stunningly and stupidly misinformed and intellectually inadequate for the tasks at hand that bears his name: The Waxman-Markey bill "
A personal attack not unusual from Watts but over what, the use of the word "evaporate", Hopefully not as that would only prove Watts isn't that good at English
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/evaporate
One would also hope that Watts who professes to know about this subject would know that Siberia is within the Arctic circle and that tundra/permafrost is indeed melting and has been for a while.

There are stupid statements made by idiots but it would seems it Watts that is making them.
What is the Arctic doing at the moment It has been well below the average through most of the year, so far, it did lift in April to early May but is now falling and with summer returning it will only sink further.

Let me go on record by saying Watts is stunningly and stupidly misinformed and intellectually inadequate for the tasks at hand that bears his name: the Watts Up With That site.
The polar ice cap *is* melting. The polar tundra *is* melting. That releases greenhouse gasses that have been locked up in the tundra, causing a positive feedback in warming. It *is* something we should be concerned about.
But we won't, since people prefer statements like those Watts made - that it's nothing and to stop worrying about it. Some time in the future - maybe a few decades, maybe a few centuries - when science announces that it's too late, that we passed the tipping point X years ago, people will go like lemmings down to the sea and die. What an epitaph for us - died of complacency after a long illness of allowing the terminally stupid to have the 'equal right' to make decisions that they didn't have the intelligence to make correctly. We'll die of equality. but at least we'll all be equally dead.

First off, you've taken a quote out of context posted on meteorologist-climate change skeptic Anthony Watt's site, asked a legitimate question and then added a walloping dose of silly.
For anyone wanting to hear the interview in its entireity, or to learn more about the bill, please check the links below. The point Rep. Waxman is making is one that's been discussed in many circles, and yes, it is scary, and the ramifications need to be understood for oh so many reasons.

Anthony Watts has been shown to be wrong so many times, why would anyone believe what he says.
