What sort of things do schizophrenics see? Is my kid's father lieing?

OMG There are so many types of schizophrenia. I saw shadows and heard voices. But I never named them and from what I know about that type of schizo, he wouldn't know about the other personalities he has. The internet has the answer to your doubts. Look it up and take it from there. Medication got me to the point where I don't see or hear anyone any more.

This would be pretty funny if kids weren't involved. I think you may be right. However, my brother-in-law was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and he says he see's vampires hiding in the trees in our back yard, so he doesn't come over to our house anymore. He also says that he see's mermaids floating in the toilets. (hehehe) Sorry. Anyway, the only thing you can do is to make sure he really is seeing a mental health professional. Schizophrenics see all sorts of things. They can be both delusional and see hallucinations. Their senses get messed up, so they can also taste, smell, and hear things that don't exist. They can also be paranoid and often think people are after them and conspiring against them. Only a professional can tell whether they are lying or not. Since some schizophrenia is hereditary, I'd have your kid evaluated from time to time. It's possible he's faking it all, but you'll never know unless a professional tells you.

He could also have a combination of schizophrenia and multiple personality disorder.

It's possible that could be happening. Mental illness comes in many forms and is extremely unpredictable. But, he could just as easily be faking it. He should really be evaluated by a Psychiatrist just to make sure. That's probably your best bet. Multiple Personality Disorder is RARE. Meaning about 1 in 1 million, if that. He needs to get medical attention.

Otherwise, I don't think you should judge your child's father. If he is lieing about having schizophrenia to shirk responsibility he is clearly not in a healthy mental state, regardless of having the disease or not.

And you should know the disease could cause one to see anything, really. It causes a change in perception, consciousness, and one's grasp of reality. It's plausible he has the disease, you can't determine that. You should encourage him to see a psychiatrist.

That is multiple personality disorder, not schizophrenia. They aren't the same thing.
