Star Trek Federation vs. Star War's Empire: In a full-scale war, who would win?
Only FACTS based on actual movie footage or live TV show episodes can be used to justify your answer. These FACTS must be verifiable (not opinions). For instance, The Federation had cloaking technology, the Empire did not. On that point the Federation is superior.
Only material from the movies and TV episodes are acceptable (not books, cartoons, short stories, etc.) In advance, thank you for your thoughtful responses.

Wouldn't it be nice if people actually took the time to READ the question before they come up with some half crocked and asinine excuse for an answer? In case you don't get it ... that was meant for you Char ... more on your answer after I give an informed opinion in the parameters of the question that was asked.
It is really hard to answer this question without using things learned in the EU of Star Wars ... that's were we find out how many ships the Empire actually had and their capabilities. In the books it is also learned that the Empire had a super secret think tank built inside a cluster of Black holes, called the "Maw Installation", they had another fully armed Death Star Prototype there and an unbelievably powerful ship called the Sun Crusher. This ship was basically indestructible by any weapon of the era, Han flew it right through the command module of a Star Destroyer and got away without a scratch ... the Star Destroyer wasn't as lucky, and could launch a torpedo into a star's core that would cause it to go super nova within hours. Then there's the absolute ultimate weapon ... Centerpoint Station ... a weapon that could fire a beam of energy 200 km wide and destroy ANYTHING that got in its way. What made Centerpoint so dangerous was that it could fire at any target anywhere in the galaxy ... even thousands of lightyears away because when it fired it opened its own hyperspace window and launched through hyperspace ... that also meant it could fire on a target a thousand lightyears away and have the destructive beam hit the target in a matter of minutes.
Even not being able to use that info there are two things from the movies that would trump ANYTHING the Federation could throw at them ... two words ... DEATH STAR ... not just one either ... Two Death Stars. If you would allow for DS II to be completed before the fight ... then the federation would stand no chance against the might of the Galactic Empire. Another thing that would be to the advantage of the Empire are the Wing after Wing after Wing of snub fighters that could be launched by the warships of the Imperial Fleet. A Super Star Destroyer carried 2 Wings of snubfighters ... that's 288 fightercraft. A Imperial Class Star Destroyer carried half a Wing of snubbies, that's 6 squadrons of fighters or 72 fightercraft. An Imperial Mark II Star Destroyer carried 8 squadrons of fighters or 96 fightercraft.
Now let's look at the Imperial Fleet at the battle of Endor, the end of ep VI. That fleet was half a sector fleet. It consisted of 1 Super Class Destroyer, Vader's flagship the Executor, 500 Imperial and Imperial Mark II Star Destroyers and another 500 hulls of different classes, at least half of which were nothing more than supply tenders. Using the lowest totals of snubbies that could be carried by this fleet you're looking at well over 36,000 snubfighters that could be launched against an enemy ... and the fleet at Endor was half a sector fleet and at the height of its power the Empire fielded 12 full sector fleets.
I would have to give the edge in sheer numbers to the Empire but Federation Capital warships were much more maneuverable than the capital warships of the Imperial fleet but in the end I think the Empire would win by the sheer fact that they could overwhelm the Federation fleet with sheer numbers.
When it comes right down to it you'll probably always have Trek fans saying the Federation would win and Wars fans who would say the Empire would win ... just the nature of the beast.
Now let's examine the answer given by "Char":
First of all she might want to read the question because the question specifically says "Only FACTS based on actual movie footage or live TV show episodes can be used to justify your answer" ... that in and of itself makes your answer null and void as pretty much everything you say comes from EU sources and even then your "data" is incorrect.
"Actually, the Empire does have cloaking technology. Which is how jedi escape bounty hunters"
What ?!?!?! The first part is right but the only time we hear about it is in the Thrawn Trilogy and the Thrawn Duology. Even then the way it is done in the Star Wars galaxy makes it more of a disadvantage than an advantage because it is a double blind system ... meaning they can't see you but you can't see them either ... pretty much useless for most uses. It's how jedi escape bounty hunters ... again ... WHAT ?!?!?!? I don't know where you came up with that one but it's very wrong. The only thing the Jedi use, again in the EU, are Stealth X-Wings ... they aren't cloaked they are just built with a who bunch of Stealth tech that makes them hard to spot even when they are right in front of you. The rest of your "comments" don't even deserve a rebuttal because they are so untrue. It really is scary to think that you know more about Star Wars than most guys because if that actually is true then there are a ton of brain dead guys out there

I think the Federation would win. Technologically, I think it is a wash. The Empire does not seem capable of designing a large scale weapon without some sort of flaw and what Star Fleet is very good at is finding and exposing flaws, even against beings with superior technology. Both sides seem to have solved all issues with production capacity...no matter how many ships are destroyed, replacements are available.
I've also not seen Star Fleet involved in combat on the ground using large massed armies. Sure tactical teams from time to time, but Star Fleet does not go down to the ground and conquer people in the series. I'm sure that they do, but it would seem that Star Fleet itself is like a navy...fighting other ships, boarding enemy vehicles for hand to hand combat...but it is not really an invasion force. There is only so far one can get with a force like that. Star Fleet seems to lack the equivalent of Storm Troopers. I'm thinking...say, in the current movie...Captain Pike asks for men with hand to hand combat experience and comes up with only three...one of whom is Sulu-the guy who knows how the fly the ship...and Kirk, the guy he just appointed second in command. Seriously. On a military vehicle two thirds of the away team on a dangerous combat mission come from the top ranks of the ship...people vital to its operation. Goodness, what kind of military organization is this? If the battle with the Empire began before the Klingons were brought into the Federation, the Federation would have some serious problems winning the war.
But the truth is, even if the Empire would score early victories, Star Fleet would eventually prevail. In the original movie, the Emperor dissolves the senate and it is mentioned that by doing so he dissolved the bureaucracy. When that move is questioned, Vader responds that the Empire will be ruled by fear going forward. Well that is no way to rule a vast territory. Apparently, fear has boundaries and space is a vast place where rebels can hide. The Federation is not averse to working with resistance forces and forming alliances, and I doubt without a corp of ambassadors, the Empire would be very good at diplomacy - say negotiating with the Romulans to cause distractions. The Emperor is a master politician, but he obviously can't be everywhere at once.
Star Fleet seems to be very good at producing very good captains for its star ships. On an individual level, Imperial captains are probably in position because they can stay out of trouble. Think of all the commanders that we see Vader killing for failure? Star Fleet would have an inquiry into the failure to determine what should be done better next time and see whether rules were broken and then take actions against parties who did not follow procedures. Star Fleet officers don't tend to kill each other when things go wrong. Star Fleet seems very good at learning its lessons. They can defeat the Borg, they will figure out how to deal with TIE fighters and Storm Troopers.
On a metaphyical level, though, it matters where this war would take place. If long, long, ago in the Star Wars universe, the Federation would definitely win. There is a prophecy in the movies that Anakin Skywalker is the one who is destined to restore balance to the Force. He does so by destroying the Jedi and finally killing the Emperor. If destiny controls the Star Wars universe, the outcome of the end of the Empire is foreordained by the workings of the Force. Score one for the Federation. The Empire exists because the Force is out of balance. Chances are that Star Fleet would win simply because they arrive for battle with that Empire at an opportune moment when it was time for a rebalancing.

The Empire is powerful too. Bu only because of the dark side.
Hm-mm, I like the Federation Klingon's are a formidable race. The Vulcan's can control minds. Yes definitely the federation.
But that planet destroyer of the Empire is advanced too.
Could really be a tossup. But the federation will eventually win out.

Actually, the Empire does have cloaking technology. Which is how jedi escape bounty hunters.
To The Wizard: Most jedi have mind control powers, as well as telekinesis. I'd more like to see a Klingon vs. Jedi war.
Now THAT would be interesting.
The only reason the Empire was beaten by the Rebellion, is because Darth Vader threw Emperor Palpatine over the edge if the Death Star.

I think Star Trek's Q Continuum as seen in the series of The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager is as powerful if not more than Star War's "force". Technology wise Star Trek is more powerful if you consider time travel, worm holes, "red matter" a big deal.
