Rather have pets before you have kids as a training if you want to get used taking care of someone and educating.
Of course you can have both same time but must know that is a is responsibility.
Source(s): Been raised with pets since i was 1 year and i'm addicted to them :D - 1 decade ago
for me, I will prefer kids, but pet is the best way for you to prepare yourself to have kids because they need care and we don't know what is in the mind of the pet. It just like having a baby, we don't know what's in their mind.
Why I choose kids? Well, simply because kids are a good investment. They will help us and take care of us when we get old but pet may die long before I reach 70.

I like how pets, mainly dogs, can be told no once and they'll never do what is undesirable again. Kids, they have no limit it seems. But, it annoys me when people treat their pets like humans. I want a child of my own one day and I'd never prefer a pet over my own flesh and blood. I guess I'm neutral.

I haven't had kids, not yet anyway.
For now I prefer pets, they are easier to care for, they don't cry, scream or wake you up in the middle of the night.

Well, I have had both, so I would say it is best to have both as kids grow up, go to a University, go after their career, get married and then only visit. In direct contrast, your pets are always there and always love you!
