Anyone know how the Vatican is going to spin this one?
THOUSANDS BEATEN, RAPED IN IRISH REFORM SCHOOLS
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090520/ap_on_re_eu/eu...
DUBLIN – A fiercely debated, long-delayed investigation into Ireland's Roman Catholic-run institutions says priests and nuns terrorized thousands of boys and girls in workhouse-style schools for decades — and government inspectors failed to stop the chronic beatings, rapes and humiliation.
The report concluded that church officials always shielded their orders' pedophiles from arrest to protect their own reputations and, according to documents uncovered in the Vatican, knew that many pedophiles were serial attackers.
Wolfenstein-Here ya go:
But the commission said its fact-finding — which included unearthing decades-old church files, chiefly stored in the Vatican, on scores of unreported abuse cases from Ireland's industrial schools — demonstrated that officials understood exactly what was at stake: their own reputations.

When will the world wake up to these sick b@stards. To those who comment on " how many times is this going to be posted"? I would post it five times a day, and not even to begin to cover the number of lives these sicko's have ruined. Not to mention the millions they have murdered.

That story just breaks my heart. After the Church gets sued some more, we will start hearing more stories about how these 'Settlements' are 'Destroying' the church.
The settlements are not 'destroying' the church. The actions taken by the church have destroyed it. If the Catholic church goes out of business because it can't pay the settlements..... That could be a good thing...perhaps they should have considered this when they protected generations of pedophiles.
Maybe they need to re visit their celibacy rules. They sure as hell need to re visit their recruiting practices and their staff disciplinary practices.

I'm glad I'm no longer a Catholic. This crap is beyond disgraceful. People can go on, and on, and on about what being Catholic really means and that all this is isolated and has nothing to do with what being a true Catholic is......but if the Catholic Church doesn't practice what they really believe and stand for, what difference does it make. The Catholic church is being destroyed by the people who are supposed to be maintaining it.

Religion first and foremost is about control, once control is established the personal abuses and agendas by some of "Gods servants" can take place, perhaps the Hitler Youth Pope will actually respond on these deplorable acts of evil, then again don't hold your breath.

They certainly have a questionable style since they only just realised genocide is occurring in Palestine by the Israeli's and we all know this has been going on for years so why didn't they speak up earlier?

Hmmm, the traditional method is my guess:
1. A 'holier than thou' attitude, combined with...
2. A vow of silence.
The silence thing seems to work a lot better than the vow of chastity eh? I reckon sexual frustration is likely to be a major factor!

I imagine the Vatican will either deny it claiming they know nothing about it the same way they did with all the other pedophilia scandals.

They won't stop doing it till the church stops paying everybody off.
Slap those crimminal preists in prison!!
I'd never send a child to catholic church to be molested!
I also have nothing to do with religion. It's evil.

of course they will handle this incident just like the rest of the sexual abuse cases they handled before..
they will have an apology and pay the victim familys out of court settlement than rotate those pedophiles to a new location where those monsters will hunt on other innocet victims..

You can be certain that the Church will not "spin" anything. They will try to restore justice for what a few miscreants did in acting in total rejection of Catholic teachings, impoverishing current Catholic ministries.
Given our American experience, here are a few facts that certainly will emerge:
1. Any molestation will have been committed by a tiny percentage of religious, probably 1% of less of those who cared for orphan children.
2. Any molestation will have stopped at least 40 years ago; the article says that the payoffs have gone to men age 50-80 years old.
3. A victim industry will be manufacturing memories to cash in on reparations averaging $90,000 a person.
4. Anti-Catholics will tar and feather all Catholic leaders for the evil actions of a handful of religious who are now defrocked or gone on to a higher court of justice.
Cheers,
Bruce
