F150 making noise,any ideas?

I have a 2001 F150 V6 automatic, and it is making this noice that sound like it would if a metal fan was rubbing against its fan cage, then it will stop. Later it will start again and then stop for a long while.

The noise seems almost random. It does it mostly when I am sitting and idling at a stop sign.

any ideas what it could be?

Update:

I will do so, but it almost sounds like it is coming from underneath the truck.

I'm pretty sure you have fan barings going. If it has a fan clutch it could come up eventually.

the following is a really undemanding nacho dip that tastes surprising! a million kit Velveeta mexican chese (you would possibly want to do tremendously spiced or undemanding) a million can Hormel chili +/- eco-friendly onions melt it in an oven-secure bowl contained in the Microwave or oven (for in spite of the undeniable fact that lengthy it takes to be all melted) stirring at times, and devour it with tortilla chips. it truly is surprising!!
