What should happen to people who leave their dogs in hot cars?

I just witnessed a dog locked in a car today, with the windows completely up, NOT EVEN CRACKED!! It was 85 degrees outside and probably 100 or more in the car. Long story short, I called the police. I think people should be put in jail for that heartless crap!!

Well done for calling the police. At least the police are allowed to break into the car to help the dogs. I agree people who leave dogs in locked cars should be prosecuted.

Someone I know very well broke a car window with a tire lever to allow some air into a car that some idiot had left their dogs sweltering in whilst they went shopping in the supermarket on a hot day. The person who broke into the car wasn't prosecuted, the police were very understanding.

I've seen that, it was the middle of summer and some one had left two dogs (one small one big) in the back of their car out the front of my house, they had left water and put the windows down, but they were in there all day, and I had seen the same car and dogs parked up the street at the pub a few times. I called the police and the RSPCA the cops left a note and issued a fine and the rspca stayed with the dogs gave em fresh water, I gave them some food to give them (they looked skinny) and we got some damp towels to cool the dogs down and another person went door knocking to find the owner. Finally found her, she looked so trashy and just abused every one and took off, the rspca called the cops to go speak with her, sinse they had her plate numbers, and the rspca sent some one to her house once the cops got there... dunno what happened there after, but it was just heart breaking

I think they should be ticketed & fined & made to sit in a hot car to get a clue what it is like.

For anyone interested this link has a flyer ppl can buy for a few dollars to place on a car's windshield explaining how hot it gets in cars & how pets are effected by the heat. It is practical info if only to read for yourself.

Surely you're kidding. Jails are climate controlled. They should left to sit in hot cars.

I totally agree and they should never be allowed to own an animal again, either.

I think people like that should tilt their head and let their one remaining brain cell fall out.

I agree. Punishment for animal cruelty/neglect should be much more severe than it is now.
