Border collie question?
ok so i have two male border collie puppies, one is 17 weeks old and one is 22 weeks old. we got them from two seperate litters four weeks apart.
we have had them for about two months now and love them to bits, i will soon have to make the desision to castrate one or both of them, i was going to keep them both entire but dont want them to fight- will this happen if we keep them entire??
also i would like to breed from one at least, none of them have papers and i would not be doing it for any money just thought it would be nice for them to father a litter. i will be doing agility with them when they are older.
so really id like some advice on whether or not i should breed one or both or have them both castrated or just one?? also how late is too late to have them castrated without them being riggy? thanks
riggy probably doesnt make sense im talking horse terms, basically if you get horses castrated too late it doesnt really make a difference to their temprement and they still see themselves as stallions etc
thankyou for all your answers i suppose i hadnt really thought about all the unwanted dogs and puppies your right. i will have them both castrated in a month or two. thankyou

You should get them both crastrated just getting one done can still cause fights. Thay are two many unwanted dog including border collie in animal rescue being put to sleep because they can't find homes. Be a responsible dog owner and don't add to the problem. They will be much happy castrated and uncastrated dog are prone to different kinds of cancer like prostrate cancer.

You should not breed either, you should get them both castrated together, otherwise one will become more dominant to the other.
Dogs "do not need to become fathers" - what tosh !
If you breed Border COllies it is for the betterment of the breed and you must ensure you have the right homes for any puppies. No reputable breeder will want to use a dog that has no papers, no proof of lineage, no titles and most importantly, NO health screening for the following things all Border Collies should be screened for before being bred:
DNA TESTING FOR CL, TNS, CEA. Hip scored, annual eye tests, BAER hearing tests, gonioscopy test.
This is going to set you back around $400 for each dog.

Most vets recommend neutering at about 6-7 months of age to avoid any of the hormone-related behaviors from developing.
Did you know that BC are the number one dog in rescue right now? They are high drive intelligent dogs that need to be stimulated (have a active job to do every day). If they aren't, they create jobs for themselves (usually not what their woners want) so they are not a dog for just anybody.
Neutering at any age, really doesn't make an different in temperament, just keeps the hormone levels below the "I'm interested in girls" stage so they don't wander or fight. If neutered late, the hormones have levelled off and neutering is of no benefit in reducing aggression.

wanting them to father a litter is not a good enough reason to breed
how ever if the turn out champs in comps and/or agility then maybe.
I would personally advise to have them both fixed, but you could wait to see which of the two excel at what you want them to do and decide from there. Maybe head down to your local agility club and ask a few of your questions there.

Have them both neutered. Avoid fights. Having said that, years ago I had a shep/lab neutered at about age 5, he was just fine. I don't know what you mean by riggy.
