According to cosmology, all of space-time began with the Big Bang. That means that time as we know it didn't exist before the BB. It's hard to imagine that, but the usual analogy is "What's north of the North Pole?".

We don't really know how the BB started. It may have been a "bubble" that leaked in from part of a larger multiverse. Or maybe the universe contracted on itself and burst out again. Unfortunately we'll probably never know, since any evidence from before the BB would likely have been destroyed when the universe was in a state of singularity (i.e., zero size).

    Both.

The origin point of the universe was the Big Bang, which occurred 13.7 billion years ago.

However, everything that exists, including the universe, has always existed. It was not created or caused. Even though the universe has a beginning, it did not "begin".

Addendum: Donut Tim - The evidence found so far does not indicate the origin of the components for the Big Bang. Nor does the evidence tell us anything of events occurring before the Big Bang, although guesses and ideas abound."

The only component of the Big Bang was a singularity. It *is* the origin.

Rodney M - "What (if) there was anything before that is not known or probably knowable."

There was no "before" the Big Bang. It was the First Cause and the origin point for our temporal continuum.

The universe and time began at the Big Bang. What (if) there was anything before that is not known or probably knowable.

Is there a beginning or an end to a circle? Perhaps time and/or space is not linear (does not exist in a straight line).

yes even an end has a start
