is there such a thing as a spedo monitor thing for horses?

id love to find out what speed my horse actually goes while flat out, i had to get some of those jockey goggles as shes quick...i cant see through eyes streaming half the time. (she ex-racehorse).

or is there another way of finding out the speed?

    Any satnav will tell you how fast you're going eg. tomtom, navman

  • Actually if you go to any GOOD sporting goods store you should be able to find a radar gun. These are normally used by police but they are also used by alot of baseball coaches for checking a pitchers ball speed. You can get them from about 70 dollars up.

    Do it the way they do it at the tracks: measure a specific distance, get a stopwatch, and time how long your horse take to go that distance. Once you know the time for the distance, you can compute the speed in mph (or kilometers per hour, if you're metric).

    Portable GPS should do the trick. Handheld and battery powered, they are not much bigger than a packet of cigarettes, and can be used in no smoking areas.
