hello, i am an owner and breeder of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, the best breed in the world, well for me anyways. i am NVQ qualified in animal care to level 2, i have worked with dogs for over 4years and have also ran my own boarding cattery. i have also worked with horses in riding school, livery, private and competition on and off since i was 13, i am now 24. i have 4 lovely Cavaliers called Maisie, Lily, Poppy who was bred by myself out of Maisie and Buzby son of Poppy. i am lucky enough to live in the south west of england with severel world class kennels on my doorstep, i am greatful to have an expert mentor to learn from and my woundefull vets who i could not do without. i consider myself a hobby breeder who breeds for above anything a heathy family pet (including all heath tests on immediate parents and right back in the line, MRI etcetc) i wont consider anything less, i do believe some breed standards need to be alterd in some breeds,

  • pening a pony in to get a headcollar on, pls advise...?

hi, i have tried many ways to get headcollar on my (was feral) pony, who's coming along ok now as can be approached and stoked etc now bless him, but still wont let me get a rope over his neck or slip headcollar on.

cant be stabled now as turned out due to lots of reasons.

would it be safe to fence him in a very small space using tape fencing or is a pony likely to hurt itself by panicking and breaking through?? he does have trust in me now but is just a git by running off as soon as the headcollar gets near him.

and i must do him myself at the moment as is very still very scared of anyone he doesn't know

  • Breeding dogs, have you ever known this, or is the the norm, im sure its not....?

i know of someone whos ***** had just one puppy in her last litter....anyways basically she was told that as the ***** had just the one pup, she could be bred from on her next heat................now wtf, i would never consider this and i have bred 5 litters to date.(not from the same dog may i add before i get lectured by anyone whos NOT read the question properly)...by the book may i add.

with my mentorship and from everything i know i have never hered of breeding a dog 2 or more seasons in a row (from any remotly responible person), or am i over reacting here?????

  • how do i earn my new very green/wild pony's trust, and get a headcollar on him....?

i rescued my welsh section b from a horse sale/market, anyway he had been turned out for a week with his headcollar on and caught without to many problems.

the thing is, the person who brought him into his new stable had taken his headcollar OFF, and basically now i can get near him to put his new safety headcollar on.

he follows me around his stable while im mucking out, and is sometimes brave enough to sniff me (when he thinks im not looking), he will take a treat, but freaks as soon as you try to put your hand anywhere other than in fron of his nose.

he was fairly good to lead before all this happend.

i dont want to push him or ruin him, but i need to halter him to get him too the round pen etc.

i dont look him in the eye when i try to touch him (on his shoulder/neck), i dont try to touch him on his head as seems extremely headshy.

he is 3 1/2 years old 13.2hh, mostly untouched, and very sharp.

oh and his stable is about 12 by 10 if this helps your answere

    thank you.

  • how can you help Head shyness?

my friend bought a horse from a dealers yard basically as a rescue case, he was in a very bad way.

anyway, hes very head shy, obviously been severely mistreated.

hes hard to catch even with a head collar left on, hes very sweet natured ut quite nervy, how can they help him get over this?

ps we dont have a round pen for join up etc which i feel would benefit him.

  • which instructor would you choose?

the english instructor, who sees a great deal of potential in my friends pony, seems to take forever geting anywhere tho, is always schooling the pony herself rather than actually teaching my friend. also sees a lot of faults in the pony and ALWAYS has something she wants to fix or work on.

losts of schooling and never allowing my friend to pony club comps, or shows.

or the spanish instructor, who gets on with the job, gives my friend and her pony a real fun lesson while actually learning a lot, letting her actually have FUN on her pony by competing.

the spanish one has tought my friend how to walk a coarse of fences and how to ride a coarse, and also tought both horse and rider flying changes in one lesson, while the english one concentrates more on schooling the pony rather than teaching the rider.

its a difficult situation for many reasons, i know who I would go with.

the pony is 14.2, 5years, TB x Welsh D, gelding, the rider wants to have fun on her pony, competing this summer, doesnt want to be a top eventer on the thing, just join a pony club and have a bit of fun.

he won 5th out of 20 at a recent show jump comp.

  • what is your oppinion on John Patterson bits?

i am looking for a new bit for my TB Ex-Racehorse, shes now in a normal Snaffle, but i was looking at the John Patterson bits as they reduce the nutcracker action and so dont hit the roof of the horses mouth.

i would like a bit though that is very slightly stronger than your usual Snaffle....thats not a must but my horse is difficult to hold sometimes on grass and tracks, not strong just very exited.

she has a small mouth and is also rather sensitive.

shes aged so we just hack and pleasure/sponserd rides., and also some fast work.

what would you reccomend, i havent a clue on bits really so im not prepared to just go out and choose one myself.

ps im not brave enough to try this horse in a bitless as has a very spirited nature, nor anything other than a cavesson noseband, nor any martingale as she does not like the feeling of restriction....i found that out already.

  • breeding and loss of puppies.....?

    A QUESTION FOR BREEDERS>

i heard someone say that if you have a still born pup then you can donate them to resurch of the breed, is this true, and if so who do you contact? local vet or somewhere else?

i ask this because my b1tch lost two of her pups at birth (she has 3 strong girls left), its was traumatic for us both as i have never lost a pup, and the first stillborn was a bit distressing for us both as he was dry, breech, and big!

i burried her babies, and it was awfull eventhough i never thought i would get as depressed as i have been.

if the above question is true, it is just for future reference, i do not know if i could do it but i would like the option at least, after all, every pup must help in the resurch into dieseses such as syringomyelia.

    thank you xx

ps soz about my bad spelling, its late and spell check is playing up
