Do bats usually have so many mites?

i rescued a poorly bat that kept falling from my house today, so it didnt get eaten by my dogs. thing is on a closer look it was coverd in tiny mites or something. thinking about it arent bats really clean animals able of ridding themselves of mites etc? i found him in daylight today, put him on my wall so he could climb back up which he did, but i found him again tonight climbing throgh a pile of leaves.

Update:

Ta yes i have done that too as i brought him in so i could phone bat rescue before realising its problem, i also have puppies right now so was more worried about them then the poor bat, eventhough they are protected, my mum just informed me that she found a dead bat yesterday.

we have them living in out attic, what do i do if i find another sick or dead bat??

    he might be sick.

i would suggest not touching him and placing him somewhere far away from where your dogs roam.

edit: if you find more dead bats, that means that there might be a disease spreading around the bats. ask your mom if the bat she found dead had mites on it.

maybe the mites are killing the bats.

if that is the case, contact any animal control organizations or wildlife places.

Sounds like he was ill. I know there is some sort of fungus that bats are getting recently....killing a lot of them.

It's usually best to avoid sick bats, as they are susceptible to rabies. Call a wildlife rehabber and only handle them with gloves, if necessary. Wash your hands well afterward.
