I did a lot of research on this, including talking to canine reproductive specialists and looking up every conceivable related published study (and there aren't that many) and was surprised to learn that unless a litter was particularly large or the dam was under extreme duress due to health issues, there is no basis to the idea that it is wrong to breed a single case of back to back litters. This isn't advocating breeding a ***** every time she is in season, just that there is no evidence that breeding two litters back to back is harmful.
If anyone here can show me the scientific research stating that this practice is detrimental to the health and well being of a *****, please send me a link. I argued for years that it was a bad thing with a fellow breeder and lost because I couldn't prove that it was harmful.
____
And before anyone jumps to conclusions: I do not practice back to back breedings and many times, my girls may only be bred once in a lifetime.

Now hold on before you all go screaming animal abuse.
EVERYTHING depends on how often this girl comes into season, what body and health 'show' condition she is in, how soon they weaned that single pup and how old she is.
If that pup was weaned early, the ***** is back in really good condition, has 9 monthly seasons and is over 3 years old then yes it's safe to breed her again.
However if she has 6 monthly seasons this takes a lot out of her .... even just having one.
There is more risk of birthing trouble etc due to the body not being fully recovered.
I personally have done this once,BUT I've had over 30 years experience breeding and showing, give my girls 24/7 care, wean early, do ALL health testing and will only ever breed a girl who's in top show condition.
NEVER ever breed more than two seasons in a row even if she is a 12 monthly cycle......this is the cruelest thing you can do to your girls. They are living breathing beings not machines.

A lot of breeders do that. One pup is not as stressful than a litter of 6 or so. Many breeders breed females twice in a row then rest them for a season or two. Nothing wrong with that.

You're absolutely right.... Apart from anything else, the Kennel Club will not permit two successive litters from one bitch... It would seem likely (and is ethically wrong) that anyone suggesting an immediate second litter, has not bothered to register the single pup (common practice, and is within the rules) - but instead, in a "what the eye doesn't see, the heart won't grieve about" approach, has decided to break the rules by going ahead with the second litter (which is in direct breach of the rules)...
A lot depends upon the specific breed but, Kennel Club (UK) general rules state (not verbatim) that;
No bitch shall be placed in whelp before her third birthday, nor after her eighth birthday..
No bitch shal be placed in whelp more than once in any one year (one period in heat will expire before being whelped again).
No bitch will be permitted to whelp more than five registered litters during her liftime.. (it is not required to register every litter, or single pups).. A measure put in place to deter exploitation by overbreeding (to deter puppy farming and consequent animal abuse..)

Actually, yes that is common practice with larger dogs. A singleton pup is not considered to be very draining, unless perhaps it's a breed that normally only has one or two pups in the first place.

you are going to be able to locate it effective to observe the canines shows on Animal Planet. The commentator oftentimes will communicate approximately each and each canines and what form of residing house it would get advantages. If one sounds exciting you may do a sprint learn on it to work out if it is the single for you. this is amazingly confusing to get domestic dogs in rescue centers yet no longer impossible. you may tremendously plenty seek on a daily basis till you come across the single that maximum heavily fits your life-form. My dad has a border collie and loves her plenty. they're somewhat solid canines and seem to verify what you're in seek of for. Jack Russel Terriers are a sprint larger than pugs, yet they're very energetic and can somewhat % to run an acre...they're very solid watch canines too yet additionally very friendly-yet they bounce fences so which you will possibly could have a timber fence. Golden Retrievers sound like they extra wholesome what you're searching for too. you additionally can like the Labrador Retrievers too.

i personally know breeders who have bred a ***** back to back seasons when her first litter had a single..... justified that having one pup did not take that much out of the mom.....

I do not breed dogs. I rescue dogs because people keep breeding pet quality dogs.
There is a lot of ignorance when it comes to breeding & I think some should not even own dogs because of this ignorance.

My opinion is that this is a great example of a "just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD" situation. It's possible for dogs to have multiple fathers, that doesn't mean responsible people would allow it.
In my opinion, there is probably a reason she only had one puppy, and I think that might be a good reason to give the ***** a break. JMO.

Well it is possible, but that does not make it plausible. Personally I would not do it. Even my doctor told me it best to wait 2 yeas between having MY babies so my body had a chance to heal itself.
