Virus on hard drive partition that will not delete?

OK, this one has me baffled. Working on a computer that had the Conficker virus. It appears that the virus set up it's own small partition on the hard drive (C:) that will not allow me to delete it or format it. I have formatted the drive several times, and upon boot up I can see no partitions, but after loading the OS, it shows up again but only if you boot up into the format mode again. The partition does not show under the properties in C: or under disk management.

Have you tried rewriting the boot sector? That's about the only place I can think of that has code that can survive a reformat.

    Good luck.

    Download Hiren's Boot CD

    http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd

Burn it to a CD-ROM and Boot It. Once the screen appears use any partition management tool to delete all the partitions including the hidden one.

Now partition it again to your need then Install your O/S (Windows) on the primary partition (C:\). Now It will be fine...

    Hope my answer helps,

Have a nice and trouble free day :)
