Mayweather is the Jordan of boxing. He has passed Trinidad & delahoya with NO loses can he get credit please?

Every were you go mayweather is on the TV and being hated on. On Yahoo answers on you tube and everywhere you look. They say he dodges people when no on calls him out. If you are number one P4P and the champ why do you have to call someone out your the champ. And if they want a fight they have to be able to fill seats. The US will embrace a guy from the Philippines before they embrace a US citizen with no loses and the largest icon ever in boxing. Mayweather said on sky sports that hes buying a home in London and that hes going to promote more in the UK than in the US. Its sad that the fight is in Vegas. I am from the US but I love how the UK has embraced my favorite boxer. If he moves to the UK I think it will be a good decision because maybe now he can get the credit he deserves for being one of the greatest of all time. BY THE WAY MAYWEATHER IS THE BIGGEST ICON IN BOXING HISTORY. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN NO ONE IN THE SPORT OF BOXING LIKE MAYWEAHTER. THEY GIVE RECOGNITION IN THE UK BUT IN THE STATES THEY HATE AND DISLIKE HIM.

Mayweather deserves credit, probably as much as he's getting. However, he still falls short in one respect. If you are to compare him to De la Hoya and Trinidad, he might be a better boxer than both of them.

But there is one area where he can't touch either of them. Both de la Hoya and Trinidad faced the most Dangerous competition during their time. Floyd is the greatest example of the fact that "Undefeated" often means "Untested".

If it sounds as if I'm being hard on Floyd, It's at least partially true. There was NO fight in boxing that was of more interest than Mayweather vs Cotto right around the time Floyd signed to fight Oscar the second time.

For the money, I don't blame him for taking the Oscar rematch. I won't go into my feeling that his "retirement" was nothing of the sort. I've gone over that many times already.

Still, as a boxing fan, NOT facing Cotto puts him short of calling himself the best. He is certainly NOT in the class of Leonard, Duran and others. I can't even give him as much credit as I would give Trinidad and de la Hoya. Though they both have losses, they also fought the best avaliable competition.

The same can not be said for Mayweather.

He's good, potentially great, but I don't think he has earned a place among the elite. I'm not even sure I would put Trinidad or dela Hoya in the Elite class. But certainly, if they don't warrent, neither does Floyd. If you are to look at accomplishments, both are AT LEAST on the level of Floyd if not a bit higher.

He has the potential to surpass both but beating Ricky Hatton does not put him above these two. True, he did decision de la Hoya in a fight but I'll ask you this.................

Is Sugar Ray Leonard a better "Middleweight" than Marvin Hagler?

Would you put Iran Barkley ahead of Thomas Hearns?

    ................

    Neither would I.

I'm in the UK and trust me, people here have not embraced him. But they may hate him less over here than in the US because they don't really know much about him. Give them some time and I'm sure things will change.

Mayweather's only like the Jordan of boxing in the sense that he came back from 'retirement'.

And you must have missed all the times people called him out. Marquez was one of them and he's fighting him. Shane Mosley just did it on an interview. Margacheato did before Mayweather retired and Mayweather gave up on a guaranteed $8 million to fight someone else for less money.

Biggest icon in boxing history is stretching it a bit. I'd say Ali, then Tyson, then De La Hoya, then about 20 to 30 other fighters in history, then probably Mayweather. But you were pretty close.

You can't tell me Mayweather is the biggest icon in boxing history at this time. If you ask the ordinary person, "Who is the greatest boxer of all time?" the vast majority of people will say, without a doubt, Muhammad Ali.

Don't get me wrong...Mayweather is a complete animal and as of right now he is by far my favorite boxer to watch, but he is not the most memorable, not yet atleast. I am sure he will be.

So... Ali is and probably for many years to come will be the "Jordan of Boxing". However, I agree that Mayweather should be embraced as a boxing great in his home country, and I would give anything to see Mayweather v. Pacquiao. There is nothing wrong with his excessive talking in my opinion, because he can back it up. The guy is 39-0, let him talk.

Jordan of Boxing? Pleasee..... Not even close! Jordan is exciting, Mayweather is not. Jordan has dominated all his opponents during his era. Mayweather took dancing lessons and trained for track and field and ducked a lot of fighters. Jordan brings the game to you. Mayweather runs like a sissy around the ring. The most boring boxing champion of all time undoubtedly. No way near a boxing icon. An icon is loved and not hated the world over.

Pacquiao has already overshadowed all of Mayweather's achievements. Manny Pacquiao has already won 6 titles in 6 weight divisions and 4 linear titles in 4 different divisions as well. Mayweather is 1 short of everything. Mayweather hasn't taken any risks in all his fights and only chooses who he fights. He has ducked everyone who has any chance of beating him. That is why he will never be an all time great. And won't be remembered for anything. He'll be more remembered for doing a stint in Dancing with the Stars and WresteMania and not for his boxing skills. Unfortunately, that is the sad truth.

I agree with you the UK Boxing Media is 10x more respectful to Floyd Mayweathe than the US Media is. I seen an interview a few days ago with Floyd on ESPN and all they did was talk about when would he be fighting Shane Mosley and Manny Pacquiao not even giving Juan Manuel Marquez his proper respect. Then this Idiot Brian Kenny says Marquez is too Small for Mayweather and two minutes before that was asking him why didn't he fight Manny Pacquio...Last time I checked Pacquio was smaller than Marquez.

The Truth is Great Britain has always had more respect for pure Boxers than America has. Winky Wright went over too Europe and Great Britain too fight years ago because Americans didn't want too see Boxing skills they just wanted too see KO's. That's why American fans fall head over hills for guys like Manny Pacquio or Mike Tyson.

As Great as Mayweather is I don't think he'll ever get his respect. People pray on his downfall so much that they never realize he's a hell of a fighter. They never Realize that Floyd for the Last 11 years was in the Top 10 P4P 11 years ago nobody had even heard of Manny Pacquio. Floyd has titles in 5 differnt weight classes and he beat Ricky and Oscar before Manny did however he when he beats Oscar Dela Hoya he was past his prime. When Manny Beats him he becomes a mega star. When Floyd KO's Ricky Hatton its becasue Joe Cortez wasnt letting Hatton get into the action and Ricky is overrated. When Manny KO's He's the Modern Day Henry Armstrong.

I cant wait until Mayweather and Pacquio fight Floyd has done enough in the sport he should fight Pacquio then Mosley and retire.

I swear I had this same thought the other day when I was cleaning. He is the Jordan...or Nas of boxing...Yet at the same time on Yahoo Answers, on Youtube, in the Ring, on HBO Boxing...no one wants to give him credit for what he has done in the ring. I also feel that if he beats Marquez and Pacquiao he will still not get his just credit for beating up little guys. People say he has ducked Paul Williams, Cotto, Margarito and Mosely. A year ago Paul Williams' name wasn't big enough for a PPV. Cotto couldn't draw Hatton or De La Hoya money. He is a business man, as a prize fight you fight for the prize (money, titles, fame). As far as Mosely goes, people need to learn their history. When Mosely was hot off beating Oscar, Floyd wanted him and Shane had no interest. Now Floyd is the cash cow Mosely claims he is running. It also makes me angry when I saw Floyd fight Hatton in the US and more English fans filled the arena and booed the national anthem ...yet boxing fans still rooted for Ricky. He is the 5th biggest boxing icon I think after Tyson, Ali, De La Hoya and Leonard. He deserves more credit...I think after beating Marquez and Pacquiao he will get a little more, but in the end haters will still hate.

mayweather is a great boxer, great athlete and he has a high boxing I.Q., but you cant blame people for hating on him because he doesnt fight the best fighters of his weightclass( 147lbs) like cotto, mosley margarito, clottey, cintron, or williams. its one thing to look for the best "money" fight, its another thing to totally stop fighting the best fighters of your weight class he hasnt fought a true elite welterweight since zab judah. hes fought carlos baldomir who is an old middleweight, he fought delahoya who is an old middleweight and he fought hatton who is a junior welterweight. he's smart cuz he fights safe, meaning that he only fights guys he knows that he can beat and he doesnt fight guys that could give him a run for his money. he was the pound for pound champion but he retired!!!! you cant comeback from being retired and think you're still gonna be considered the p4p champ.

he is a great fighter, and I am sure he is doing well for the community, but his mouth is the true culprit. Really, mayweather needs to shut up some times just like mark w said. It always seems like he has this villainous arrogant vibe surrounding him which makes people hate him and want him to be beaten.

He is the best boxer. but nothing exiting. Going to a Mayweather fight is like watching the grass grow. That's the difference than DLH ,Manny Pacquiao , Ali, Tyson , Barrera , marquez, morrales etc.

Jordan of boxing??? Oh please, man, study your boxing history before making such outrageous and utterly stupid comment. When you say the "Jordan of boxing", we're talking here of the "greatest of all time", and as of this very moment, the distinction still belongs to the great Muhammad Ali. If it's pound-for-pound, then the "all-time" title is still safe in the hands of Sugar Ray Robinson. Your Floyd Jr. won't even make the Top 10 Greatest of All-Time or Top 10 Greatest Pound-for-Pound of All-Time lists. He's just a 3rd-rate Willie Pep.
