What happened to the VASIMR Engine by Ad Astra?

I have read an article saying that NASA was planning on testing this promising rocket on the ISS back in 2008. But did that ever occur? If not why? And if so, why can't I find any stories about it online?

It's still in work. The Space Act agreement to ship VASIMR to the ISS was only put in place last December. If you check Ad Astra's home page, there's one update since that time:

Summary: The superconducting magnet was delivered to Ad Astra this February and passed all acceptance tests in March. Full-power tests were scheduled to go through mid-May (i.e. now), so there will probably be another press release in the near future.

Once the tests are done, the flight unit will be built. The first flight test of the VF-200-1 will be in 2012.
