Are the reusable water bottles at old navy safe? i bought one today. I have been searching for one and finally got one at old navy, it doesn't say what metal it's made out of and i'm nervous about using it.

what type of metal is it made of?

and is it safe to use?

I'm not sure what type of metal it's made of. It seems like some type of aluminium. I work at Old Navy and the feedback I've been getting from some of the customers and associates that have purchased them is that the water gets a weird metal taste from being in the bottle. Someone has even said it tasted like some sort of chemical. So I don't really recommend using them. I'd stick with a plastic water bottle.

(PS they're made in China, so it's probably a little iffy!)

Wash it thoroughly with a bottle brush and soapy water, follow that with some steel/aluminum cleaner (I use Cameo brand) or use cornstarch if you don't have a metal cleaner, rinse, another wash with soapy water to get rid of the metal cleaner, another rinse and fill it with vinegar for a few days before using it for water. It's probably not the metal but the various chemicals used to polish the metal. When I bought stock pots made in India, they had black tar like crud on the inside especially around the rivets for the handles. It took a fair bit of scrubbing to clean that out.

If it's aluminum, it should be really light and will be non-magnetic. If it's steel, it's probably a mild steel so a magnet should stick to it.

Where is it made? I personally would not recommend drinking out of anything made in China.
