My son is almost 5 months old, do you think it would be okay to take him in the pool?
I know, I know, I am a mother of three and I still don't have an answer for this. I have waited with my girls till they were like a year before I took them to the pool we have in my apartments. I am a worry wort. I was wondering what other parents views on this were. Do you think it's okay to take my 5 month old to my apartments pool or do you think it could be unwise? Maybe because of germs or the water being too cold. Opinions, advice, experience. My husband thinks I am being too overprotective.

If he doesn't have sensitive skin, like eczema or anything then it'll be fine. I started my son in the pool at six months. He loved it!

Socrates said we are all fundamentally good... I don't believe that, I believe we are all hypocritical and do things for other ppl only if we know that there could be something rewarding for them at the end. We're like cats, other ppl think we're being nice, ''aw a hug, how cute'' but we're only thinking ''gimme some grub or I'll bite you''. Reading this contradicts my theory but just as well reinforces it. I think a lot of ppl would have helped the poor guy just as a lot of ppl would have pretended to be in hurry. Point one: there are some good people that would help straight away without thinking ''I look like a good person by doing this''. Point too: the fact that you went and wrote this story on Q&A could mean either you saying ''take your example on me, I'm a great person'' (and hell I'm not saying you aren't!) or ''Look at me, look what I did.'' So are we all consciously or unconsciously hypocritical, I dunno it's just my opinion and I guess A LOT of ppl will disagree with me and feel hurt (ego ego EGO) but hey, free country and you gave your opinion so now I give mine. Ha! (yes I think a lot and a lot of it doesn't make sense but it's a good exercise to write this stuff down). So yeah everything I said is not important but hell since we were on the subject I thought I'd just go and say it. By doing so am I being hypocritical? Probably, it's true that I'm thinking, I'm thinking ''jeez I wonder how many ppl think I'm an a**hole'' and ''whatever, I don't care'' (see how many times the word ''I'' comes up? that's the proof to my theory) But yeah, 17 year old kids shouldn't be trusted to much right? :D Cheers!

I dont see a reason why not! Just make sure your son has plenty of sunscreen and a hat and you're all set!
I was doing swimming lessons with my daughter by 4 months! So I think it's absolutely fine! If the water's too cold-your baby wont like it... and he'll let you know! ;) so no reason to worry about it.
Dont worry too much! you have a boy and by the time he's 3 he'll have stitches!! dont wanna scare you with stories LOL but it's usually true so you shouldnt panick for every little thing! :)
My son had two cuts with stitches -in two separate occasions between the ages of 2 and 3 1/2! in all very silly events.. so chill out!! RELAX!! IT is OK!! :)

my son is 4.5 months and we have been going to the pool here at our apartments since he was 3 months. He has yet to get sick or anything. I would just stick his feet in the water he will let you know right away if the water is to cold. Our son loves being the in the water he even gets upset when we go to leave and take him out!

As long as the water is warm enough it is fine. Most baby swimming lessons start at 3 months, so I think anytime after that they are old enough to go in a pool.

My mom started taking me in the pool when I was a month old. I was swimming before I was a year. I think at 5 months he'll be perfectly fine.

I definitely wouldn't take a baby into a pool unless he has all 3 rounds of his shot...which won't be done until 6 months or so. There are so many things that live in pools that can make your baby sick. But it really is a personal choice.

I don't see why it would be a problem... just as long as you have him protected with sun block ...i took my daughter to the pool when she was 6 months and used one of those little floaty things with a roof...

Personally I wouldn't do it the water isn't that clean. But you could buy one of those inflatable baby pools and put him in that, but since you live in a apartment maybe you could do it at a friends house that also has a baby so they can play together.

We took our kids to an indoor water park and my baby was around 5 months old and we just dipped her in carefully. but the water was warm and the air was warm.
