Olive oil is good and healthy but add a little butter or margarine to the oil or it will have a kind of flat taste mayonnaise is also good for browning the outside of the bread and giving it a good flavor try using rye or marble eye and also sourdough they make the sandwiches tastes so good ! You can add thinly sliced green pepper ,tomato and/or onion to your sandwiches once you get used to making different kinds . Any kind of meat and cheese combo is pretty good~ corned beef /swiss cheese (I put a little bit of thousand island dressing on the filling before I add the top slice of bread can also add drained sauerkraut to make a delicious Reuben)) roast beef /mozzarella or provolone , roast chicken / cheddar cheese sometimes I make grilled provolone and mozzarella with tomato sandwiches Have you ever tried a grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwich? it is fantastic and tastes completely different when grilled also a mashed banana mixed with a little honey and then add peanut butter to other side of the bread and grilled is delicious!

Hi, I've done this.
Make sure the pan is hot first. Put a little Olive Oil and butter in the frying pan. You can also add garlic puree or herbs to the pan as well, if you like them, etc;
Takes about 2 mins per side. You may need to put in a tiny bit of extra oil before you do the 2nd side.
Cream cheese and onions, also flaked almonds taste great with cheese. Worcestershire sauce/.seasoning.
My mouth is watering now!!!
Enjoy :)

I would just butter the slices of bread (the sides touching the fry pan). Olive oil a grill if you intend to grill a sandwich like a "panini" And for some extra flavor a little salt and pepper with onion and or tomato. I would not like the Cesar dressing but that might be just me.

I would put olive oil or butter on the bread instead of the pan. Cook it on a medium heat until each side is golden/brown just like you would a grilled cheese sandwich.
The reason I fry my sandwiches is to melt the cheese inside. Almost anything with cheese will be good (tuna, pepperoni, chicken, peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes, etc.). IMHO if there is no cheese, there is no reason to fry.
For the caesar and ham it would probably be better just to toast the bread.

Olive oil is a fine idea... or put mayo on the side of the bread that will be in the pan - forms a nice crisp crust.
How long? Until it's golden brown and delicious. Check it occasionally as you are cooking it. It won't take long.
Any meat and cheese combo is good... also try diced peppers in the gooey melted cheese.
I'd leave the dressing out.

Grilled sandwiches are great and you can use just about any combination you like.
I like swiss cheese and tomato, swiss cheese and peperoni or ham, cheese and tomato.
I butter/margarine the slice of bread that would be touching the pan so actually you are buttering inside out. Cook till golden brown and then flip. The less butter/margarine you use, the less greasy it will be. You really don't need that much if you are using teflon pans.

Hollandaise sauce would be good with ham.
I use mayo on the inside.
Turkey and swiss cheese is also good grilled.
Place your ham and cheese between bread slices.Butter the outside of the bread of your sandwich(both outside slices)Place your fry pan over low to med. heat.I use food spray and then add your sandwich, grill untill golden brown and flip sandwich over and grill other the other side until golden brown.
No need to add additional oil, because the bread is buttered and will not stick to your pan.
If you think you need to use the olive oil also...just add a little and you will be fine.

you can make almost anything in a frying pan with a lid. It may be not as deep as a pot, but it can still be used to boil or fry foods. You can cook in steps and set aside into holding containers or bowls and make the next thing and add back the food you have set aside to make a one pot meal. For example: cook your pasta in water first, strain it and set aside. Next fry your veggies ( onions, etc, ground meat in the same frying pan & season it. Add your canned tomato sauce or spaghetti sauce to the veggies & meat and continue with your favourite seasonings , then you can add back your pasta to the meat sauce and eat when ready. A little water or broth can be added to the whole dish if it is too thick

Keep the heat on medium, so it cooks through without burning. You don't need olive oil, you can use a bit of margarine or cooking spray. Cook each side until the desired browning is achieved. If you need to check it you can, or you can flip it back if it's not done enough.
Good luck.
