Harry Potter Fans? About the Sorting Hat.......(And Draco Malfoy :P) *[SPOILERS]*?
Okay, so you know about the Sorting Hat seeing everything inside your head, right? WELL, he saw what Neville would become, (Brave, confident etc.) in later years. So WHY did it still place Draco in Slytherin? I mean, he was a good guy in the last 2 books! Wouldn't the Sorting Hat have SEEN that? Hmpf.....LOL!!
Thanks for your answers!
PS~ Yesterday, my 21 yaer-old bro and I were talking about the characters (He read the the first 4 books right when they came out, then quit.) And he goes "Oh! I remember! DARKO Malfoy!" LOL!! I was like, "Ooookayyy....."
Okay, yeah....I guess I know what you mean about him WANTING to be in Slytherin. His father'd never have let hime live down any other house, huh?
*him *blushes*

Well, because you don't have to be COMPLETELY bad to be in Slytherin. Look at Severus, his personality is evil and harsh, but deep down he is good. Hence being a spy for Dumbledore to bring down Voldemort. However, you have said Draco was a good guy in the last 2 books. But he wasn't really all that great. He cursed Katie Bell and poisoned Ron although both unintentionally, but this still shows he didn't care all that much if it got into the wrong hands. A good person would always have other peoples lives on their conscience, and really a good person would never attempt to kill someone (although of course this was a very complicated issue and would of been very hard for Draco to back out, Voledmort being such a good legilimens).
If I remember rightly, in PS/SS, his character when first portrayed showed a strong desire to be in Slytherin, as this is what his family was also in. Too him Slytherin was the best house, the most powerful. So at his time at the Sorting, his mind was filled of being in THAT house and the Hat saw his determination to go in that house, so it put him there.
I personally, and I think alot of fans would agree with me, that Neville had always been brave. But he wasn't confident ,not at all, and I think this is what made him hide away and not stand up for himself. In PS/SS when Harry, Ron and Hermione are about to leave Gryffindor Tower late at night, Neville stands up to them and says he will not let them go. Like Dumbledore says at the End of Year Feast 'It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to your enemies but a great deal more to stand up to your friends.' This scene shows alot of Bravery. Neville always had it in him, he just never let it out. And as you said the Hat can see everything, it could see that Bravery waiting to burst forward.
Draco has all the quality's of a slytherin, he is sly and cunning. In my point of view, not very brave, which is a quality for Gryffindor. For instance is Deathly Hallows when he begs the death eater not to kill him although he has just been saved by Harry, Ron and Hermione. He'll use any poor means to get out of trouble.
I think he is quite loyal to Crabbe and Goyle because he seemed genuinly sad when Crabbe was killed in the Room of Requirement. However, a real Hufflepuff would tell his friends what he is up to and use their help in any way. This is what makes him a bad candidate for Hufflepuff.
He is not worthy for Ravenclaw because he is not logical. He is moderately smart though. But like I have said previously, he lacked logic in ways of trying to kill Dumbledore and a Ravenclaw would surely relise the problems.
I think this is why Draco is/should definitely be in Slytherin :D
Interesting question, star for you!

Because Malfoy wanted to be in Slytherin, and if you remember, the Sorting Hat takes your choice into consideraton. And while Draco did not kill Dumbledore, that does not necessarily make him a good person, he just didn't have the guts or the drive or anything to commit murder. Plus, being in the Slytherin house does not mean you are a bad person. In the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's stone, the Sorting Hat's song said 'Or perhaps in Slytherin, you'll make your real friends, those cunning folk use any means, to achieve their ends,' which is just saying that the people in Slytherin are more ambitious than others.

I don't think the Sorting Hat was a Fortune Teller, or that it could
forsee that Neville would Become brave or anything like that. It could
just Tell that Neville had bravery in him all along. Plus remember what Dumbledore said? That is our choices that decides who we are. The Sorting Hat couldn't have forseen that Draco would become good, because at the time of his first year, he looked up to, and admired Power. Eventually he did change, but like i said, the sorting hat only places you where it is appropriate. Draco was a snob in his first year, and he had the feeling that he would be in Slytherin because of his pure-blood family. The Sorting Hat saw that, and placed him where his mind desired.

First off I would like to say that Tom Felton, although attractive annoys the crap out of me in the movie versions. I know it isn't his fault, the ones that write his part just make him look so much like a pansy and a coward, which his character is actually supposed to be, but it just annoys me slightly. The book just shows more of the complexities of the character, but I digress. I genuinely like Draco as a character, because he has some good lines, in the books. He also comes into his own as all the rest of the characters, I do not enjoy his racist tendencies, but I know why they are there. By book 6 he is facing the reality of being a follower of Voldy and it scars the crap out of him. He, even being a guy that shares some of voldy's visions, knows that voldy is truly a mad man and needs stopped and he knew Harry enough to know that he would be the only one to do it. I believe that is one of the reasons he pretended to not recognize them when they were captured and taken to Malfoy manor. He didn't even put up much of a fight when Harry took the wands from him in their escape from malfoy manor. He didn't try to kill Harry at the Castle and when they were trapped in the room of requirement with the fiendfyre, Harry saved him and didn't hurt him. Harry started to see that Malfoy was selfish and horrible, but not an evil person like voldy when he saw the hesitancy on top of the tower when he aimed to kill Dumbledore. In the end the trio owes Malfoy a life debt, from the manor and malfoy owes the trio a life debt from the castle and Harry also owes Narcissa a life debt. So they are in each others debt and I am sure that is annoying, but it shows that although the malfoy's sparring Harry's life is backed by selfish motives it also shows they are not wholly bad, which is what makes him different than that of Voldy. Lastly, Draco is a creature of comfort and a slytherin, Voldy made his life uncomfortable, he liked doing nothing and having lots of money, all he really wanted was that back and he knew to get it back he had to get rid of voldy, so selfishly done, but it also kind of makes him human and in his humaness, forgiveable. There is a quiet respect between Harry and Draco, hence the respectible nod shared between them on platform 9 and 3 quarters in the epilouge. Yes long and drawn out answer, but hope it helps.

Well, I don't think Draco was good at the end.
I think he was never a killer, but that he was a coward, scared of Voldemort and always wanted to save his own skin.
I think a lot of people don't understand, Slytherin is not a bad house. You are not necessarily an evil person if you are sorted into slytherin.
It only means that you would 1) do anything to achieve your goal 2) Rather save your own neck than risk your life trying to save someone else 3) That you 're quite fond of being in control or/and having power 4) That you are cunning and sly.
And we have to remember that the sorting hat takes your choice or desire into consideration.
And I cracked up at you P.S. LoL!

What the SH says is not deterministic; anymore than the Prophecy was deterministic. The SH let Harry choose freely whether to be in Slytherin or in Gryffindor; so presumably Draco was equally free. IMHO, he went to Slytherin, not because he had to, but because he was the sort of person who would in any case have decided, freely, to go to Slytherin. Draco went to Slytherin House, because he was already a Slytherin in outlook. What Dumbledore says about "our choices" seems very appropriate here: "It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." The Sorting Hat can suggest - it cannot compel. Where people decide to go, shows what sort of people they are.

I guess the sorting hat knew that this would not make a very good story. lol But also in the first five books Draco wanted to be mean and this made a good story line.

Draco wanted to be in Slytherin and that is why he was placed in there. That is why it took Harry not wanting to be in Slytherin. The hat knows where you want to be.
Darko, ummm that is off, hahaha!

Draco wasn't that good in the last two books. I mean, he didn't want to kill Dumbledore, but was still doing mean things to Harry. And nobody really knows what he turned out to be. Even if he was okay in books 6 and 7, he still could have turned out evil. We can't tell in the epilogue if he's good or bad.
