Why did the republican congress increase the debt by 3.7 trillion in 12 years?
According to the us treasury department, the republican controlled congress increased the debt from 4.5 trillion to 8.2 trillion between 1994-2006. That was during the greatest economic boom time in US history.
Why did they borrow and waste 3.7 trillion?
Can you imagine how much they would of spent had it been a great depression 2 like we have now?

Obama is responsible for an additional $2.6 trillion in 4 month & it's just a beginning.
12 years vs. 4 month.............
I think democrats are way more IRRESPONSIBLE with our money.

Well from what I can see Obama wants to spend 1.8 trillion over the next year, and add to that 787 billion in stimulus packages thus far this year. Hmm I think he's got the Republicans beat by a long-shot. Just imagine 8 years of spending under Obama. He makes the Republicans look pretty fiscally conservative.
But in all fairness my friend, Clinton was in office, and the Dems had control of Congress a bunch of times too. Then there were all those line item special earmarks the Dems threw in to all those budgets and bills all those years.
So as far as Im concerned though the Republicans spent money, the Dems are outspending them in 1 year by a long, long shot. Keep it going and we'll be paying 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 dollars for a banana at the grocery store.

Actually, they did a good job of keeping Clinton in line. From Jan 1 1994 - Jan 1 2000, the debt went up, but only from 4,798,116,945,333.39 to 5,776,091,314,225.33.
Your problem comes when the Dems took over in 2006. From 2006 to present it went from 8,170,424,541,313.62 to 11,305,673,498,034.18.
Nice try, though!!!!

try a few months. now ask how can a leader use that much money in a few months.and why did barry borrow and waste so much. to keep congress rich .and he got his little acorn ready for the next crooked voting. don;t ask something like that if you don;t want to hear about your leader.how much do you think barry has wasted so far and he;s only been here a few short month. you are talking 12 years. really doesn;t make sense.

From January 20th, 2007 (Democrat-controlled 110th Congress took power) to May 25th, 2007 (today), the Democrat-controlled Congress increased debt by $2,630,588,414,496.70.
So it took Republicans TWELVE YEARS to increase our national debt by $3.7T USD.
But it only took Democrats TWO YEARS to increase our national debt by $2.6T USD.
And those numbers are from the source you listed. In 1/6th the time, the Democrats endebted this nation almost 2/3rds as much as Republicans did over 12 years.

Not sure if that is ENTIRELY true...but since you are questioning them, if this truly is an issue for you and NOT a partisan snipe as I suspect it really is--you should question why the current Dem controlled congress just spent what they did. They are not innocent in this venture by any means. So, are you questioning both sides or is it ony a problem when the Reps control it? If only when Reps do it, your question is invalidated by hypocrisy. Have a great evening.

We don't have the great depression "2". In fact, it was worse in the 70's under Carter than it is now.
Are you not concerned with the spending frenzy that our current congress and Obama are on? If not, you have absolutely no right to complain about the past. Kinda hypocritical, don't you think?

Think about it? They fight two wars with OFF the book financing while cutting taxes, something that had never been done during war time?

Two things: you need to adjust for GDP growth, and you need to exclude wartime expenditures. If you do that you get a very different picture.
