any other catholics find Mel Gibsons claims of being a devout catholic hypocritical and disgusting like i do?

i just saw his interview on Jay Leno and for someone who claims what i said above should be ashamed of himself if he were that devout he wouldn't have left his wife for another woman because for catholics especially devout ones divorce is a last resort in my opinion

Yeah, I agree. That's why we're supposed to go through pre-Cana.

Of course, Gibson also belongs to the heretical group that refuses to recognize the Pope simply because the mass is now in the vernacular language instead of Latin, and we can take the blood as well as the body.

To be honest, I don't really understand why they feel that it's a bad thing. It makes the Mass, and therefore God, more accessable to the people, and that's what Christ wanted. That's why the temple viel was torn in two at his death.

It is difficult to watch. Although I still like Mel I don't agree with some things like he's done. We are all sinners and a failure in love is particular problem these days.

The way the whole Anglican church got started with Henry VIII, seems to be with similar circumstance. But when you make yourself your own pope (Mel is not in union with the Catholic church by founding his own), you open yourself up to more problems. Sorry Mel, I just don't get it. Go get an annulment first if you need to. How about marriage counseling? No wait, you can't get annulment when you make your own church. Just decide for yourself and go back on your promise of marriage to the entire public. Well, I made the same promise and so did everyone who gets married. And I have the same responsibility.

Mel is just in the limelight and gets the extra attention. Oh, Mel, are you part of that 50 percent marriage failure statistic? I'm sorry for you!

Yes, Mel Gibson is not a real Catholic. He is a member of a break away independent traditionalist 'Catholic' Church which does not recognize the Pope and some of the teachings of the Catholic Church. With love in Christ.

Judge not less you first be Judged..Maybe all you people who answered here would think GOD was wrong for appointing King David who was a adulterer and a Murderer amongst other things King Of Israel. It just amazes how so many people with little minds attempt to Judge others without knowing all the facts. Next time you make a judgment maybe you should research it more and the reason we have a CATHOLIC Church is Christ came for the sick and not the healthy, you might think of the Church as a Hospital for the sick...

<<Any other catholics find Mel Gibsons claims of being a devout catholic hypocritical and disgusting like i do?>>

You can't make such a judgment about someone without reading their heart - and you, as a mere human being, are incapable of reading other peoples' hearts so you should refrain from making judgments that require a look at ones heart.

<<i just saw his interview on Jay Leno>>

Stop right here. . . Jay Leno? Since when is Jay Leno's show a bastion of Catholic theological integrity? It isn't. What's more, Jeay Leno is not more capable of looking into another person's heart than you are.

<<and for someone who claims what i said above should be ashamed of himself if he were that devout he wouldn't have left his wife for another woman>>

His infidelity is certainly sinful, no doubt about that.

What you have to understand is that no one can be judged by where they are, morally speaking, at any given point in their life - because they are still being perfected. It's where we are, morally speaking, when we "check out" - that is the point in our earthly lives in which we are judged.

If Catholics, even devout Catholics, didn't commit mortal sin from time to time, the Church would not have instituted the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

<<because for catholics especially devout ones divorce is a last resort in my opinion>>

It IS possible, perhaps even advisable, for a married couple to separate - even permanently. It's just that the Church will expect them to live up to their marriage vows and not begin romantic relations with anyone else.

In the sad event of a permanent separation, for strictly legal reasons (tax exemption status to name one) it becomes practical for a legal divorce. This is okay SO LONG AS the couple understands that the divorce does not dissolve the marital bond itself.

It's when couples use divorce as an instrument to break the marital bond - that is not tolerated by the Church, and rightly so of course.

Instead of bashing Mel Gibson, you should be praying for him; hoping that he eventually makes himself right with God. It can be done, despite his past.

Besides, you too have your reasons why you are not entirely right with God yourself. There's always room for improvement.

Mel Gibson look like The champion of Moral Views but i am shpck he comitted adultery even he claims that he and his wife seperated he should have never got into an affair and to this mess. and he should have never made the Passion of Christ if he did not share the same Mora; Views that Our Catholics and Jesus Christ did. Its a mockery to all Catholics Christain and other Christains

What is equally shocking that thinks adultery is fine. Look at him . he is drunk someone needs to wake him up

I feel angry and shock at his insolent behaviour

    He's done great things.

    He's done good things

    He's done bad things.

He is a sinner -- just like you and I.

Remember we should not presume to know God's judgements OR His graces.

(Besides Mel left the Roman Catholic Church and built his own church which hosts a Tridentine-type Mass -- I am not aware if they folded back in since Pope Benedict XVI or not)

Mel Gibsons is not a Roman Catholic not under the pope. There are different kinds of Catholics. He left the true church years ago. So in my opinion he is just another protestant.

I agree that it is a horrible situation. I was so appalled to find out that he was having an affair even though he was separated for three years. As a Catholic, and he a Trad Catholic he should know that there is no divorce. Yes he, his wife, his children, and yes this woman and her child are in my prayers.

I'm more embarassed by the way Mel Gibson treats people of other religions, especially Jewish people. No matter what religion, you should always accept other religions.
