First and foremost, I am Catholic. If you've got a problem with that, then tough, because nothing's going to change that. I'm happily married. My husband is also a devoted Catholic. I'm a substitute teacher with a degree in secondary education and an emphasis on English. I'm also currently working on my Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership. I'm pro-life and I think the No Child Left Behind Act is BS. I'm for vouchers and open enrollment and against social promotion. Where sex-ed is concerned, I want the real thing, promoting safety, adoption, real statistics on unplanned pregnancies, STDs, and the risks associated with birth control, not the brand of BS handed out by Planned Parenthood that encourages promiscuity and abortions. Now you know where I stand. And like I said, got a problem? Tough. "It is an unhappy ending for those who attack the Catholic Church." Saint Robert Bellarmine 1542-1621

  • Does anyone know where I can find a Penelope Stout commemorative coin?

Penelope was the wife of Richard Stout, one of the founders of Middletown, NJ. I was told that there was a commemorative coin made depicting her rescue from an attack by a Native American chief, but I have only ever seen pictures. She's a direct ancestor, and being able to find even a copy of the coin would be very meaningful. Does anyone know where I can find one?

  • Is there a better alternative to uterine ablation?

My doctor is starting to talk about uterine ablation for me because of my prolonged period, and hormone therapy has not helped. I just did some research and learned that it's contraindicated for a woman like myself who still wants to have children. Is there an alternative that will allow me to have children in the future?

  • Do my husband and I have any chance of being able to adopt?

We can't, now, I know, because I'm still in school.

However, after I've started my career, we'll be more financially stable.

The obstacle that I foresee is my husband's medical history. He has manic-depression bi-polar disorder with schizo-effective tendencies, a heart defect, and a blood clotting disorder. All are well-controlled by medication. It's the manic-depression and schizo-effective parts that I'm worried about. Will these bar us from being able to adopt in the future?

  • When should I send out my curriculum vitae?

I am planning on doing my student teaching and taking the PRAXIS II this fall, so I will graduate in December. At what point should I send out my curriculum vitae to school districts?

Also, should I package copies of my portfolio with my cv, or should I simply take copies of it to individual interviews? (The portfolio would be on a cd.)

  • Help creating an assignment?

I am taking Composition and Rhetoric in High School and Junior College this semester as I continue on my path towards my teaching certificate. I have to turn in a series of assignments, of progressive difficulty, with something in common. They cannot be literature based and instead have to reflect some sort of opinion.

I need four. I have three, but I am having trouble coming up with a third. The three I have are:

    1) A letter to the editor

    2) A multi-POV script

    3) An essay, perhaps a McGuffin type

I was wondering if anybody had any ideas, and where it would fit in the order of assignments?

  • For National Novel Writing Month, what constitutes caffeine abuse?

I figure I'm good if I'm downing obscene amounts of Dr. Pepper. Hubby says it has to be at LEAST a 2 liter of Mountain Dew an hour.

    What's good?

I ask because hubby got me the NaNoWriMo merrit badges for my birthday.

  • Has anyone ever had a virtual Tupperware party?

You know, one where people went to the Tupperware rep's website through a special link in an e-mailed invite that you sent?

If you've had one, how did it go? Would you call it more successful or less successful than, say, the traditional Tupperware party?

I ask because I'm contemplating one.

  • Why have more and more churches started to focus on things other than Christ?

I've noticed that many churches, as they get larger and richer, focus on things other than Christ. For example, the largest, richest church in my town has a gym to rival any YMCA, a Starbucks, a swimming pool, etc, inside the same building as the sanctuary! They boast more about these features than about having a community of fellowship and faith. When did such secular features become so important in a church?

I've also heard of churches that actually promote Twittering during the service instead of paying attention to Scripture!

I've also noticed that this tendancy also only seems to happen amongst Protestant churches. I've never seen a Catholic church do this. (Yes, some of the older, more historic Catholic churches, especially cathedrals and basilicas, might have rosaries, rosary rings, etc for sale, or ask for a donation for lighting a prayer candle, but it's merely to help offset the cost of the candles or the upkeep of the building. It's nowhere near the same as putting in a gym and a coffee shop!)

What is the cause of this phenomenom?

  • Why do Protestants ignore James 2:17?

"So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead."

    12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade ago
  • Why do Protestants not realize that it is not faith alone, but a combination of faith, works, and grace?

Many Protestants are eager to cite Ephesians 2:8-9 in support of "faith alone," but always without verse 10. Together, it reads:

    8

    For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not from you; it is the gift of God;

    9

it is not from works, so no one may boast.

    10

For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should live in them.

So why do Protestants ignore 2:10?

  • If works have nothing to do with salvation, then why did Jesus say this?

    34

Then the king will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

    35

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me,

    36

naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.'

    37

Then the righteous 16 will answer him and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?

    38

When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?

    39

When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?'

    40

And the king will say to them in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.'

    41

17 Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

    42

For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,

    43

a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.'

    44

18 Then they will answer and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?'

    45

He will answer them, 'Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.'

    46

And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

All these things that Christ listed are good works!

  • Is Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha to be canonized, soon?

When I was in my local Catholic bookstore, this morning, I noticed that one of the saints medals of Blessed Kateri said "St. Kateri Tekakwitha" instead of "Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha."

Has she been recently canonized or is she expected to be canonized fairly soon? I had been in the same bookstore only a month ago, and saw nothing labled "St. Kateri," only "Blessed Kateri," but I can find nothing online about her canonization.

  • What do traditionalists have against the New Order Mass?

I mean, seriously, what's wrong with it?

Is Latin REALLY that much more sacred a language than English or any other language? And if you want the ORIGINAL, why are you not whining about how the Church went offstray when we got churches instead of holding the Mass, in Greek, in the catecombs?

Or is it because the new Mass made God more accessable to the people by being in a language the populace can understand and allowing us the blood and by allowing the laypeople to participate? Isn't that why the veil in the temple was torn in two at the time of Christ's death, to make God more acccessable?

    So, seriously, what's the problem?

  • What are the laws for this in Missouri?

I want to run a 40 Days For Life campaign this fall, in Springfield. For those not familiar with 40 Days For Life, it basically involves a lot of people fasting and praying in front of a Planned Parenthood or other abortion clinic (we specifically target Planned Parenthood because they are the nation's largest abortion mill) for 40 days in an effort to educate people about the horrors of abortion.

So, will I need a permit? What all will I need to do to ensure that nobody gets arrested? We won't actually be on Planned Parenthood's property (and to ensure this, I've already looked up EXACTLY where their property line is and where public property begins).

  • How can I stop the welcome center from popping up every time I start up my laptop?

If it helps any, I am using an Acer Aspire 4330 with Windows Vista on it.

The Welcome Center popping up slows the start up time of my computer, and it's very annoying.

  • A question about fertility signs when using Fertility Awareness/Natural Family Planning?

I'm in my first cycle of charting. It is also my first cycle since coming off of the horrid thing known as the pill. What I've noticed is that, for the past few days, I'll have the creamy/lotiony cervical fluid in the morning, then by noon and into the evening, it's the raw-eggwhite quality.

I have also had temperatures above my cover line, but it's been a fever because I've been sick with what my doctor calls an "influenza type illness."

Could the fever be affecting my cervical fluid? Should I just ignore this cycle's data and call it all practice? Or can I call the cervical fluid readings accurate and just ignore the temperature readings?
