What does it feel like to get a tattoo?

How much of a difference does it make if you tend to be highly sensitive to pain?

Also, ladies who have a tattoo where the bra strap normally goes? How did you handle that during the healing process?

I have a low pain tolerance. Getting a tattoo is going to hurt, period. But it's a tolerable pain that's worth it in my opinion. I describe it as a burning feeling almost. It's hard to explain lol, but yeah it's going to be uncomfortable. And as far as the bra strap..I have a tattoo on my shoulder and it was a pain keeping the strap away. You kinda have to pull it down a little to keep it away because you don't want it rubbing on it when it's peeling. But that's only for a couple weeks so it's not that bad.

getting a tattoo doesnt hurt depending on where u get it done. i have 4 on my shoulder blades and they didnt hurt. i have one on each inner ankle and it hurt a bit and i have one on my foot and it hurt a lot lol. if ur highly sensitive to pain u need to decide if u can handle it enough to sit for 20-30+ mins depending on the size of the tattoo and details of the tattoo. the ones on my should blade are right where my bra strap goes and i just made the strap a bit looser and had no problems with it. when i got my first tattoo i asked the guy on a scale of 1-10 how much does it hurt he said about a 3-4. it hurts more to stub ur toe then it does to get a tattoo. besides the pain is for a short time it doesnt hurt the rest of my life.

To me, getting a tattoo feels like a cat scratch at first, then like a sunburn afterwards. I'm really sensitive to pain, and it suprized me at how little the tattoo actually hurt. I didn't wear a bra while my tattoo healed. It was only a few days of going bareback, and the outcome of the healing process was totally worth it. I have an awesome tattoo!

Well, there are a variety of feelings depending where it is.. Sometimes it can even vary within one tattoo.

Sometimes it feels like a long, rough scratch, like sandpaper

    Sometimes it's a tickling sensation.

Sometimes it's just a feeling you want to swat away

Sometimes it feels like a hot scalpel is cutting into your skin.

I have a tattoo where my bra would normally sit under my arm.. It's a big ribcage piece. That spot actually healed the worst. It really faded, it refused to heal and was always itchy, and broke out in eczema, though the rest of the tattoo was fine. It's a lot harder when there is a lot of friction, but apparently putting a small piece of plastic wrap around your bra helps a lot

It feels like a cat scratch on a really bad sun burn, not fun but not unbearable either. As for the bra strap, you do need to be careful because it can interfere with the healing and mess up your tattoo.

    oh!

i just got my tattoo on top of my shoulder, where the bra strap rests...

i have to say, it wasn't painful for me at all

if anything, the buzzing noise annoys me more then the actual needle

but my artist was a little worried about the bone part...but i took it very well

if you have no tattoos, it can be a little painful, but all in all, it's manageable

i have five tattoos, my sister has her own shop "cattoos" up in Dunkirk, NY. First off make sure it is the tattoo that you really want, don't just get one for the hell of it. Then to answer your question, yes they do hurt, but after a couple of minutes the pain is torerable and your senses to want the tattoo overcome the pain. then after you have one you will want another one, they can become addicting, even my mother who is 50 some has like 3 or 4!! lol if you are in the NY area look up my sister cattoos on myspace she does execellent work

I got one done on the top of my foot. It basically felt like someone was taking a razor blade to my foot. The pain never really got easier for me. I'm going to get it touched up a bit but then I'm completely done with tattoos.

If you are really sensitive you want to start small...its like having road rash done by needles. Kind of like dental work on your body. My entire back is done....frankly I wore baggy shirts without a bra

like running a fingernail back and forth on a sunburn but a little sharper

or when a cat initially scratches you... it's different for everyone

just go in there expecting the worse and it wont be so bad
