If works have nothing to do with salvation, then why did Jesus say this?

34

Then the king will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

35

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me,

36

naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.'

37

Then the righteous 16 will answer him and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?

38

When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?

39

When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?'

40

And the king will say to them in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.'

41

17 Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

42

For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,

43

a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.'

44

18 Then they will answer and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?'

45

He will answer them, 'Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.'

46

And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

All these things that Christ listed are good works!

    Faith without works is dead.

Works do not save. Read the parable of the prodigal son. There is a difference between good works and faith. Faith is the requirement for salvation, good works are the practice of that salvation. It also says that helping others is the only religion that God finds acceptable. But it still doesn't save one from hell because one could have all works but no faith.

To obtain salvation, no works of man can pay the price. Salvation is obtained only from the grace of God, Jesus paid the price for us with His sacrifice..

After you become a believer in Jesus, then you must obey God, love others and demostrate that love by preaching the gospel, feeding the need, etc.

It is not our good works that save us. It is solely by faith in Christ Jesus and that He died on the cross for our sins. We are to work out our salvation by doing good works, so people can see our good deeds and give glory to our Father in heaven.

Jesus saves us so that we may do good works in His name and for His glory

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:

Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Good works ALONE does not save you. For example, an atheist can give to the poor and help children, but he rejects Christ, therefore he is sent to Hell. A Christian can give to the poor and help children, he does not reject Christ, and therefore is sent to Heaven, because he believes in Jesus. Doing good works should be courteous, but you must make sure you are saved first.

  • We do have to obey Jesus, we have to make him Lord and Saviour.

At the Judgement seat of Christ which can be reached through GRACE ALONE we will be rewarded for our works and deeds.

And yet strangely, no mention of worship and devotion.

The myth of Xianity is contained in the Paulian dogma. Gotta keep the coffers full and the butts in the pews by threat, fear and intimidation.

Otherwise, Christ's teachings won't make money and thus perpetuate power and influence.

But they are not good works done to ACHIEVE salvation, they are good works done as the RESULT of salvation. That's my Protestant view, at any rate. Perhaps we will just have to agree to disagree.

You can tell a tree by the fruit.

You do not work for salvation. You work because of salvation.

Jesus can provide salvation for all. You cannot earn it.
