make sure the door is open as far as it can go . the lift the hooked end out of the wire do the same at the bottom same thing at other door, just make sure the new springs are in the exact same places as the ones you removed. remember keep the door wide open when doing this and always have a buddythere to help you or to call the EMT. a friend of ours gums maloney did it by him self one night after drinking just to get the wife off his back and the door came down and as he was trying to get the other side in place the spring moved off the catch on top of the door .gums woke up abou 5 minutes later and the paramedis handed him a baggie with six of his front teeth in it. his mouth was swollen for a month and being the way he is had the teeth made into a necklace and wears it every day

Sounds like you have extension springs. You have to change them with tih door up and put a vice grip on the track under the bottom roller to holdthe door up. If your springs are old thye should be replaced. The springs are color coded for the proper weight of the door.

Good idea to approach the situation by gauging your comfort level to perform the repair. It does require some arm strength and the right tools including safety goggles. You can find step by step instructions and an easy to follow video at http://www.diy-garage-door-parts.com/how-to-replac... for anyone else who needs help doing this repair themselves.

they use two very strong three to four foot long steel bars that fit in those round holes at the end near the springs..but if you do not know what your doing please pay someone to do it..they can and will take your arm completely off and or make the bar go right through your head

really they have that much tension in them

pay the 25 -35 dollars for the repair person to do it..it is well worth it..

    really

    good luck
