Hi , whenever I need to revise for something what I always do is turn off any online chats I'm having with friends, social networking websites etc. Sometimes, though, I feel more calm and able to study with some music on (though I wouldn't suggest songs with words-too distracting). Find a hard surface, if you don't have a desk then maybe you could use a portable table around the house and move it to where you need to study? Get a glass of water or juice or whatever so you can keep focused. Get all your books together in your studying place and a notebook for spider diagrams and notes.
So after setting up were you want to work, make sure you take short breaks every 50 minutes or so, 50 minutes is the amount of time a brain can function properly.
Distractions:
If you ever think, hmm, I could just take a break and watch this dvd, or I feel peckish, maybe make a cake? Just completely put it out of your mind. In fact, what I do is get an elastic band around my arm and every time I feel like giving up I snap it hard. I ought to be revising now....
Preparation:
Make a spider diagram of all the individual things you think will come up in the test, and the pages you'll need to read them up on or websites you could see to help. Then work your way periodically through all the subjects, the internet is littered with little quizzes to check you've got it all in your head. Also, if you have a long time to absorb information write down all your key facts on post-it notes and stick them around the house in places you think you'll see them constantly (i.e fridge, ceiling on top of bed, etc). Then you'll just have to think: fridge...fridge...And you'll know the key cause of Global Warming or something like that.
Hope I helped!
