Why is Lebron James considered one of the best defensive players?
Lebron was the runner up for the defensive player of the year, but his defensive statistics aren't that good. He does have decent numbers for steals (8th in leauge) and is somewhere inside the top 100 for blocks, but he is not a good on the ball defender and never defends the best player on the court. He has developed his flop pretty good this year so maybe that is what is considered to be the most important defensive skill. Has Lebron's hype gotten so big that people can just ignore the numbers and the fouls and just claim he is the best at everything, ever?

Never defends the best player on the court? Are you serious!? What LeBron James have you been watching because the one I'm watching is always guarding the best player on the court (barring centers) or the guy that's getting hot.. and he shuts them down too.
Seriously, that statement was so false dude.. that's really all that the coaches have brought up about him this year, is his willingness to guard the best player on the other team.

he is horrible at defense... they only say this because he runs up behind a person on a fast break and slaps it a way (half the time its a goaltend but they never call those on him so he has a lot of blocks). He is really bad at perimeter defense. Mostly it's all hype.

Media hype. To many sportscasters in the media don`t have a clue to what it takes to be a good defender anymore.

his is good on def and since sten wants him to be the face of the nba they are going to exadurate it and say he is one of the best defenders dont get me he is good but he not one of the best or even top 25
all he does is get trail block which be goaltending on 62% of em
on ball he is pretty good but he uses his body to check u which is a foul but its sterns baby so they wont call it

he is a SF he's not gonna have a ton of blocks.
also, he's a pretty darn good on the ball defender in my opinion...
