What kind of decals should I use on my road bike?

I recently painted an 80's , downtube-shifter road bike all black, and I want to put some decals on it, but I'm having trouble thinking of a "theme". what would you recommend?

I don't know the brand of the bike, and I actually don't give a hoot about putting that type of decal on it anyways.

How about this... go to a sign shop that cuts vinyl lettering. Look at their selection of lettering and other shapes and have them make some in whatever shape or style you choose. Heck, you could even put your name on it if you wanted.

Just make sure that when you choose the size that they aren't too big... figure the maximum size for lettering should be 1/3 the tube circumference... if the tubes are 1-1/8" diameter the maximum letter size should be about 1-3/16" tall, if 1-1/4" the maximum letter height should be about 1-5/16".

Of course, if you choose decals that go all the way around the tube you'll need them to measure the entire circumference of the tube.

Have you considered passing on decals and just leaving it naked?

I'm guessing your bike frame is lugged steel. Have you thought about just outlining the lugs with a contrasting/complimentary color? Here's an image of what I'm trying to describe:

Not many bikes have lugs that are that fancy, but even standard run of the mill lugs can look nice with a bit of detail paint. On a black frame, you'd have a number of choices for colors that would work well.
