Does Spybot and Ad-aware work the same way?

In the past, I remember I used to use Spybot and Ad-aware se.

Do they work the same way? Is Spy Bot used only for Spyware?

Then does that mean that Ad-Aware is used only for preventing pop up ads? I know for sure that I already have an Antivirus program for

Windows XP.

Well, the line between adware and spyware has a few shades of grey. What would you call a program that monitors your websurfing(spying), but also generates unwanted prompts trying to sell you products(ads)? Given that its all uninvited computer software in the end, the difference between the two programs is a matter of how many & what unwanted programs each is able to locate, isolate, or remove.

I've used both spybot and ad-aware in the past and I don't have any particular complaints. But I've read from multiple sources I have a lot of faith in(one of which is linked below), that the new superstars of keeping a PC clean are Super Antispyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

If you want just a single program I think you can get away with passing on Anti-Maleware unless you already suspect your machine has a nasty infection of some sort.

Also, pop ups from websurfing are back and unfortuantely there isn't a great way to block them at present. I won't claim to intimately know how it all works, but it apparently is due to the fact that the current generation of pop ups are generated by DHTML which is integrated into a given page in such a way that prevents a simple blocking protocal from knowing what part of the page to block and what part to allow.

Greetings. My name's Sanjay Patel, and I currently hold an honorary Master's degree in the field of Computer Science. I am aware of, and have personal knowledge related to your question. There are computer maintenance businesses which are probably in your area, however they come at the cost of hiring a professional to enter your home. There may also be some local destinations where you can drop off your computer and wait to have a technician look at it. These options can often be costly, and pretty inconvenient. The answer to this question can probably be found doing a little extra research on Google.

A well-running computer can be a hard thing to maintain. From my experience, there is but only One software which is reputable- and consistently reliable for healing sick, slow computers. Reimage™ is a world-renown, easy to use software designed by Forensic scientists and made for the average person. This thing will fix literally just about ANY problem you could possibly be having with your PC. Reimage was recommended to me by a Professor during my 2nd year of Graduate school.

Both programs are essentially the same, they remove Malware--they do not generally protect against viruses however. You would want to look into something more like AVG, BitDefender, or even Symantec Antivirus for virus removal.

Malwarebytes is also a pretty decent malware removal tool. Unfortunately lately Ad-aware's anniversary addition has been touting ad pops from your task bar I'm assuming is part of it staying free.

I use both of them, & I usually run both scans at the same time without any kind of conflict. What versions do you use? I have spybot 1.6.0 & adaware se personal 1.06r1. Also, does it give you the option of telling it to stop bugging you with that alert? Because, neither one of them should pose any problem to your puter. You might try uninstalling them, then reinstalling them, & maybe that will work. It's worth a shot.

Those two programs are old. They have just went down hill now. And they both scan for spyware, adaware, keyloggers exc but there just named differently. I would ditch those programs and get

    SUPERantispyware and malwarebytes anti-malware from CNET's download.com
