what do i do if i can smell gas but it's not coming from my own home?

every so often i get a smell of gas (chemical) but it's not coming from my home. i know this because it's mostly in the garden that i smell it as i often have the door open for my dog.

i was told to contact a helpline but would they actually be able to do anything if it's coming from someone elses home?

i am starting to worry that i will become ill if it goes on too long, please help

Hi you should definately call them and even if they find no problem its better to be safe than sorry. Whoever is your gas provider try googling them and they should have an emergency number so someone can come out and check.

About 3 months ago I couldnt sleep and kept going down to my kitchen in the early hours and kept getting the tiniest wiffs of gas so I phoned them and they come out at 5am and there was a little leak. The gasman said it was nothing major but he said it needed fixing and it was done there and then and I was glad that I had phoned. Give them a call x

I would contact your gas company asap. It could still be coming from a gas line connected to your house. When digging for your garden, a small hole may have been punctured into your gas line. Your gas company should lead you in the right direction. Better safe than sorry. By the way, do not smoke near your garden or light any fires near it, until you are certain. : )

Call the gas company. its their responsibility and choose the option for emergency service when calling. This is taken VERY seriously.

they can check where the leak is coming from and then they will advise whoever owns the place were the leek is coming from on what to do. if it is unsafe then they will turn off the gas until its fixed.
