what to do about my awful driving school experience?

I have never driven before due to living in a big city NYC where driving is so insignificant because of how easy and economical it is to get around. I decided to get some lessons last year with one school, but the instructor was a bit unethical. He quickly put his hand on my knee when I made a sudden stop and asked me how much did I like "hotdogs" when we were driving by Nathan's hotdogs one day. I know pretty funny but it gets worse.

After a few lessons at that school I decided to try another school. This one was unethical too but I put up with nonsense because this is something I really want to accomplish (get my driver's license). These people would cancel on me last minute, would present me with different instructors who I could not understand (no offense if you are bilingual) and who looked bored while instructing.

To make a long story short I went to do my road test yesterday and I sure enough I failed. I think that my lack of confidence, experience as a driver (I don't own a car), the car I was provided with was a piece of junk and the instructor seemed annoyed, hardly spoke to me and all he did was smoke cigars did not help at all. After the test he quickly made a call to the office to see if I was all paid up and took me to the nearest train station and that was it.

I am frustrated, confused and feel taken advantage of. I feel like giving up on driving. What to do? I am on my own and don't have anyone to teach me therefore I am relying on these schools for instruction.

I hate to say this but if you did not research the driving schools through the state and the BBB before choosing one .... there are far too many "schools" which have no business being in the business and the odds are not in your favor unless you do the research in advance.

Go for it again, but first of all check with both the state DMV / Secretary of State AND the BBB for the rating and any outstanding complaints against the driving "schools" which you are considering...

Choose a school with several years of operation in the area and explain your previous bad experiences to the scheduler - they will work with you to select a conscientious and scrupulous instructor at your request at any quality establishment. Realize that you may have to work against a very full schedule for the good instructors!

I have no love of driving in NYC ... I do not envy you in the least trying to learn to drive in or near that Mad House! but realize this - if you can drive well enough to earn your license there ... you will be able to drive with confidence ANYWHERE!

i agree with crazy bob. do the research first. ask the school specificly what you want in the instructor. female, realiable, english, etc

also remember to always check your mirrors on your next test. i had 11 marks for not doing that.
