Best way to lengthen curtain panels?

I bought the longest panel curtains of the design I liked, but they're about 4 inches too short (not touching the ground, giving a "high-water" effect). I can't mount them any lower than they are.

These are the curtains I have, so you can see the fabric detail:

My question is, how can I lengthen them? I've heard of buying a coordinating fabric and putting a band of that fabric somewhere on the curtain. Is that best done near the top, somewhere in the middle, or at the bottom? Is it cool to do more than one band? I have basic sewing skills. Are there any alternatives? I could buy another panel, cut it up and use it, but won't that be strange to have the same fabric patched in?

My decorating style is contemporary with Asian influences.

Thanks!

It is a great idea to find a fabric that combines with the fabric (nice color) it will not look strange because it will be as if it is part of the curtains.

You can use solid colors like red, black or white. You can put the band on the bottom because if you put it on top than you have the difficult job of making holes and so one; if you put it in the middle than it will be kind of wearing a patch of different color; and finally if you buy the same fabric of curtain and sew it it will become as if you needed more fabric. We do not need all this.

Doing the buying of different color of fabric for your curtain you can buy a matching ribbon and it becomes a whole different curtain with a different design.

Hope you like this idea. Good luck on what ever you decide. This is the idea of two color for a curtain... remember this is a shower curtain it is only an example.

Also could get extra panels, or matching fabric - hang the curtains lower, and add valances higher, to make it appear as if they are longer...the valances should be long enough to hide the tops of curtains. love Liteyes's idea of adding matching pillows!

Well Now a days they are coming out with all kinds of fringe in beads also adding beads or material at the bottom is another way of decorating . Also now they make glue that you don't even have to sew . As for material get enough to make some pillows for the bed or couch so it will tie in with the curtains.and that will make the room.
