Going to be in Toronto on business for a week in July - what to see/do?

I'll be in the Niagara district from Sunday night through Thursday night (flying home Friday afternoon). I want to see the CN Tower, but what else can I do during the evenings (after 5:30 or so)?

Any restaurants to recommend? I do have a budget, but it's pretty generous.

Thanks!

Update:

Maybe I'm not in the Niagara district of Toronto, but that's what the map had as nearest neighborhood. I'm near the Rogers Center and CN tower and harbor.

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

Remember that the Niagara district is more than an hour from Toronto by car. I would recommend Chinatown (amazing and totally free unless you want to buy anything - eat at one of the traditional restaurants for an experience with "real" Chinese food, then Kensington Market (beside Chinatown and easy walking), the St. Lawrence Market, and the Distillery District. In the Distillery District you'll find restaurants and shops to browse. Check out the chocolaterie if you like chocolate.

I think another answerer is trying to think of Casa Loma. Very nice.

We have world class museums; the Royal Ontario Museum and the Art Gallery of Ontario. ROM and AGO for short. Open evenings.

I suggest from where you are staying, take a walk west, toward Yonge Street. On the way, walk into the street level upstairs part of old Union Station. It's called the grand hall. You'll find a travelers aid bureau in the middle of the room and they have Toronto magazines, Transit Guide (also available at subway stations - includes a map!) From there you can walk in the P.A.T.H. Underground shopping in case its rainy, or walk up Yonge Street (the longest street in the world!) a few blocks to the Eaton Centre. Lots of stores and the heart of downtown, and only 15 minutes or so from your hotel.

You could also walk south a bit and get on a ferry and go to centre island. Then there's Queen Street West and Yorkville....

Oh restaurants? We have ALL kinds: try Pape and Danforth "Greektown," area or any of the many great places on Queen West of University. Real Italian and Portugese food along College Street west of the university. It depends what you like. Enjoy your visit.

afterthought: Casa Loma and parts of the "Distillery District" may not be open after 5:30. If you have any time during the day these are both places worth seeing.

I was there a few years ago.

Go see The Second City comedy club--This is where some of Canada's best young comics start out and eventually go to SNL.

Also, I don't remember the name, but there is a historic house/castle on the outskirts of the city that you can tour. I don't remember the name, but it's definitely worth checking out.

Not sure if you would be interested, but the Hockey Hall of Fame is right in downtown Toronto too.

    Have fun!
