Will my Mac still play a cracked dvd without damaging the computer?

There are three big cracks and several small cracks BUT they are only in the middle plastic part. None of the cracks extend into the readable surface. So I just want to know if it is safe to put it in my computer?

    Please do not put a cracked CD in your drive...

    They spin really fast and if they shatter (rotating at speed!) will likely break your CD/DVD drive... at best!

    If you think it will hold up and absolutely must... do it once and copy the data off it to another CD ASAP, but i recommend against it.
