Do you know those conversations?

the Conversations

… and the best thing

would be to perform

One spoke as the two men sat

at the small table in the corner

amidst the clutter of dishes and voices

A single flower long-stemmed and fine

tipped to one side in the slender glass vase

And the waiters came and went

in their judicious haste

Outside the air well into spring

the sky a high dove's egg

pale blue and speckled across the center

The wine rich and earthy

and their chairs on the uneven boards

the voices mixed and melting

into a kind of foliage

in the room reserved for the foreigners

The two men sat in their business suits

learning to wear their disguises

and how to place the cup to the side

And the one man said

he would be a performer

and the other thought he's too intense

It isn't played that way

It's an accident he thought

And the soufflés came

and the salt and peppers went around

And the fans turned slowly overhead

like the twisting prop of a dying airplane

So when did you come here?

It was long ago

I came here for love

Didn't you?

Oh yes, in a manner

yes, the other said

nodding his head

I just have to find a way to express it

These things happen incidentally, don't they?

Yes, that is, if you pursue them

And it's best to know people

who speak in a foreign language

You can understand them more clearly

when you don't know

what they are saying

I am very impressed with this poem....I've been reading a lot of published modern poetry lately and your work is as good if not better than a lot of what I've seen.

It is a fascinating piece....the words you use and the scene you create are both simple.....but there is great depth here. I loved the

    ....'voices mixed and melting

into a kind of foliage' and 'like the twisting prop of a dying airplane'

My only criticism....'the sky a high dove's egg' the word 'high' doesn't seem right here...

This is a really intriquing verse, which doesn't attempt to dot all the i's and cross all the t's, and is all the greater for that.

ps - missed commenting on your amusing previous posting...different from your usual stuff, but just as good.

I like your poem and the conservations. Sorry but for the first time and only poem I could not understand until I read it twice! But other than it's a very nice poem! In fact it even sound just like a conversation! Now I need to read the dictionary more... Hope this helps anyway and keep up the good work! ;)

Sometimes it is amusing to puzzle out who the heck the opposite character is speakme approximately. You could have your possess little backstory on them, without reference to truth. Especially whilst you're vaguely paying attention to the dialog approximately Mary/John/Jack, alternatively of actively taking aspect. I come from a sexy gigantic household, so I'm used to these forms of circumstances. There's no approach I can maintain up on who everyone is aware of, and the way they recognize them.
