Should suspensions against pitchers be changed?
It really seems like more of a joke to suspend a pitcher for 5 games, all he really misses is on game. When a regular player misses the full amount of games, it would only be even if a pitcher had to miss actual time. I'm not saying have him miss 5 starts but at least give them a real punishment like miss 2 starts.

Funny how this question seems to come up every single time a starting pitcher gets suspended.
Yes, it is true that a starting pitcher will probably not miss more than one start with a 5 or 6 game suspension, but that does not mean that pitchers should be punished to a greater extent than an everyday player. There is no rule in MLB that says a starting pitcher can only be allowed to play in every 5th game. A starter may still be used as a pinch hitter or pinch runner, or (although very rare) out of the bullpen. To simply label someone as only playing every fifth games is nothing more than an assumption.
Look at it this way - the Cubs presently are using a lefty-righty platoon in center field. Johnson generally starts against left handed pitchers, and Fukodome gets the nod versus righties. Does that mean that you can assume that Johnson would only play if the Cubs are facing a left handed starter? And if you can assume that, do you suspend Johnson for a time period that reflects the Cubs facing 6 starting pitchers who are left handed? Of course you don't. Or what do you do if you have to suspend a player who only plays once or twice a week? Does he deserve a longer suspension because he plays in fewer games? Of course not.
Sorry, but you have to treat each player the same, regardless of what position they play, or how often they actually get into games.

ONE more time, the pitcher misses NO starts. He just gets another days rest between starts. So if you suspend him for five games, it is five games between starts instead of four for ONE rotation. He misses nothing !!

yep 2 starts would probably be appropriate. There can be a big difference of going 2-0 as opposed to 0-2.

Yes, I think they should suspend them their next 2 or 3 starts.
