Can I be openly gay, and religious?
I'm 15, and I'm openly a lesbian. Ever since I've been young I've always been catholic. But since I came out to my parents, my mom said I can't go to church anymore, because I would be living in sin... It actually bothers me a little... I know the Bible says it's wrong to be gay, but I ignore that one aspect and continue to date girls and try to attend church when I'm allowed to go. But my parents have been refraining me from going, is it ok to be gay and religious?

Even if you are a lesbian its not a reason not to go to church.
Yes in the bible it says that it is wrong to be gay and it is a sin but god forgives all sin and all of us sin no matter how perfect we think we are.
In the bible it also says that if a child disobeys their parents they shall be put to death..... we don't necessarily follow that rule of the bible so much, now do we?
I suggest that you and your parents have a small conversation and tell them that your homosexually isn't a reason for you not to go to church and that that all sins are forgiven by god and that they should except you for who you are,and respect your way of thinking.
Hope this helped
Best of luck!!

Oh heck yeah. Don't let people hate on you for being gay... if you have a relationship with god then you should definitely keep up with it.
One of the most religious people I know happens to be a lesbian woman, and she is a minister in the Metropolitan Community Church, which is a nationwide church that is Christian and very LGBTQ friendly.
I grew up in the Catholic church and while it was a pretty homophobic community, I also knew a bunch of gay and lesbian people who retained their faith.
Anyway, you can definitely be gay and also religious. And don't let anyone take away your sexuality or your religion.

I too was raised Catholic, but have since started going to a United Church of Christ church which supports LGBTs.
You can search their main page to find a church near you. Maybe you have one in your own community or nearby where you can drive there (when you turn 16, of course). But I understand how you feel. My mom is a strong Catholic and follows the rules pretty tightly as well. If you still want to go to Catholic mass, I believe that people that have gay-sex aren't supposed to take communion. So maybe go to mass and pray as always, but then don't take communion to appease your mom. Depending on your community, you could also talk to your priest about the issue. Our old pastor always preached acceptance of all and encouraged everyone to take communion, so he was cool with that stuff. Now, if you have a very traditional pastor who throws in the occasional "definition of a family" sermons every so often, probably not a good idea to talk to the pastor since you know what he'll say.
You can be both. If you feel strongly about both, then go for it. A good friend of mine was the president of the LGBT group at college and ran a weekly bible study. Good luck!

Some people think that simply believing in God is enough. But "even the demons believe and tremble" Since christianity is a bible based religion I do not see the logic behiind picking and choosing what you believe out of the bible based on what is convenient for you. Your parents not allowing you to go to church is very contrary to christian beliefs so I don't agree with that either but my reasoning for this greatly differs from yours I am sure. It is my opinion that you have to choose one or the other and that homosexuality does not fit with christianity. Sorry if that offends anyone but that's how I feel. Doesn't make you less a person.

Yes, you can be openly gay and religious. However, I don't understand how you can pick and choose from the bible. It says something that you are is wrong and that you're going to hell. Doesn't that make you feel kind of..I don't know..like you don't want to believe in it or follow it? Your parents are ridiculous for not letting you go, but I'm just more amazed that you would want to go.

Do whatever you want to do. The Bible has many different interpretations to it and it often contradicts itself. One minute it says homosexuals will burn in eternal damnation and the next it is saying to love everyone equally. Just because you have a different interpretation of the Bible to your parents doesn't mean you have to give up on religion.

Of course it's ok to be gay and religious. i will remind you though, that religion is more of a choice than your sexual orientation, as i'm sure you know. Go to church if you like it, but don't listen to anyone if they try to convince you that you're "living in sin"

I don't see why not. Catholics have more of a problem with it than some other religions. Maybe you should shop around and find a church that is right for you and where they will accept you and not condemn you to hell.

of course it is
i know many gay lesbian people who are very religious
but maybe you could go join a different church thats more accepting of the gay community
but just do whatever you think is best to do
:)
