without a doubt messi deserves this award over any other player in the world including Cristiano ronaldo. He has completely outplayed everyone scoring barcelona an outstanding 32 goals in la liga and he played a huge part in in the teams Champions leage success. Top scorer with nine goals not to mention a key element in the final, knocking in the killer second goal against Man U. Whilst ronaldo missed chance after chance and was predictably selfish on the ball messi was a calm team player who took i think two shots one of which ended up in the goal. Possibly the most potent ingredient for Barcelona this year and was a major contribution to the teams historic treble. Having done all this he still holds his ego in check and keeps his mouth shut for the media unlike some players......

Messi absolutely deserves this award for his outstanding scoring AND team work. When Barcelona struggled messi made things tick for the teams attack and if his hard work, dedication and well rounded proffesionalism don't win him that trophy those Man U biased fifa voters can kiss my a**!

Ronaldo. Messi plays on a better team, and in a weaker league. Ronaldo is absolutely dominant. Messi has to rely on other players more, and this is player of the year, not teammate of the year. Ronaldo is too good
