Why do some Christians say that Jesus is God?
He never claimed it but did say he didn't know when the end was coming as only God knew that. He also prayed to God asking for the burden of his mission be taken from him. He comitted his spirit to God.
For those who have treated this as a serious question and added references I thank you. For those who condemn and judge be afraid for you hsve ignored what Jesus warned about judging.

Because that is exactly what Scripture teaches us: that Jesus is indeed Christ. The deity of Christ is taught all throughout the Bible. ---------------------

Because Jesus is God. You are not a Christian if you do not believe Jesus is God and He has always been God.
Jesus as a human did not know all things but He knows everything as God. When Jesus was here on earth He was fully human and fully God. He put aside some of His glory to become fully human. When He ascended to heaven He took His full glory back
Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega. How many Alpha s and Omegas there are??
Jesus said who has seen Him has seen God. He also said that Him and the Father are One.
Jesus was the perfect example for us how to have a personal relationship with God, that is why He prayed.
Yes, human Jesus committed His spirit to God.

That is an excellent question, that I found very thought provoking! The essence of the Trinity is not only there oneness of being the same, but the different forms of revelations they each give in revealing the fullness of God.
The Son, being the human side of God, in how He is as a man, what His thoughts, walk of life would be, His priorities, personality, how He interacts with humans, the poor, hungry, and sick. Being the example of a perfect human, that is of the complete standard of God the Father.
A lot of things Jesus said and done were done for our hearing and example only, to show us how to pray, how to trust in the hardest of times and suffering, how to have faith when things go bad, and how all things can bring God glory. How to be of God and human. Only Jesus could complete this task. The Holy Spirit has it's own separate and unique job in delivering the same Spirit that is of the Father and the Son. God the father is so big and huge Jesus was the only bottle He could disguise Himself in.
I found this exert on google when contemplating your question and I found it somewhat interesting but I am not through with this question yet. All I know is that they are 1 but of 3 different types of the FULL and WHOLE representation of God, without each you don't get the whole.
The Father is God. In John 10:29 & 14:28 Christ says that the Father is greater than he is. This refers to His humanity in relation to God. However in John 5:16-23 Christ tells about mutual relationship with the Father: both work, both have knowledge, both are sources of life, both are judging, and both should be paid the same level of honor. On the level of deity, the Father and Son are equal says v. 18.
On the level of deity, we affirm that Christ knows everything. See John 1:18; 2:24-25; 7:28-29; 8:13-20; 8:54-55; 16:14-15; 17:25 and 21:17. The above items considered, the aspect of Christ speaking in Mark 13:32 therefore is the human Jesus.
P.S. What good would it have done us humans if Jesus the "deity" did tell us the day/hour of the end? I believe He kept it from us for a good and wise purpose ;) Hince the gospel would of never been delievered if we all knew it wasn't for a few thousand years down the road. You know what I mean?!

Jesus and God are two different entities of the Godhead. They are equal and were both there at the Creation of all things.
God called Himself "I AM" when He spoke to Moses from the burning bush. Jesus also called Himself I AM.
God is referred to as The Alpha and the Omega, Jesus is also referred to as the Alpha and the Omega.
The are both God but only God the Father knows when the end of this world will happen. This does not make Jesus any less God, it just shows that they have different roles.

So, who did Jesus claim to be? Who does the Bible say He is? First, let's look at Jesus’ words in John 10:30, “I and the Father are one.” At first glance, this might not seem to be a claim to be God. However, look at the Jews’ reaction to His statement, “‘We are not stoning you for any of these,’ replied the Jews, ‘but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God’” (John 10:33). The Jews understood Jesus’ statement as a claim to be God. In the following verses, Jesus never corrects the Jews by saying, “I did not claim to be God.” That indicates Jesus was truly saying He was God by declaring, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30). John 8:58 is another example: “‘I tell you the truth,’ Jesus answered, ‘before Abraham was born, I am!’” Again, in response, the Jews took up stones in an attempt to stone Jesus (John 8:59). Jesus’ announcing His identity as “I am” is a direct application of the Old Testament name for God (Exodus 3:14). Why would the Jews again want to stone Jesus if He had not said something they believed to be blasphemous, namely, a claim to be God?
John 1:1 says “the Word was God.” John 1:14 says “the Word became flesh.” This clearly indicates that Jesus is God in the flesh. Thomas the disciple declared to Jesus, “My Lord and my God” (John 20:28). Jesus does not correct him. The apostle Paul describes Him as, “…our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13). The apostle Peter says the same, “…our God and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:1). God the Father is witness of Jesus’ full identity as well, “But about the Son he says, ‘Your throne, O God, will last forever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.’” Old Testament prophecies of Christ announce His deity, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).
So, as C.S. Lewis argued, believing Jesus to be only a good teacher is not an option. Jesus clearly and undeniably claimed to be God. If He is not God, then He is a liar, and therefore not a prophet, good teacher, or godly man. In attempts to explain away the words of Jesus, modern “scholars” claim the “true historical Jesus” did not say many of the things the Bible attributes to Him. Who are we to argue with God’s Word concerning what Jesus did or did not say? How can a “scholar” two thousand years removed from Jesus have better insight into what Jesus did or did not say than those who lived with, served with, and were taught by Jesus Himself (John 14:26)?
Why is the question over Jesus’ true identity so important? Why does it matter whether or not Jesus is God? The most important reason that Jesus has to be God is that if He is not God, His death would not have been sufficient to pay the penalty for the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:2). Only God could pay such an infinite penalty (Romans 5:8; 2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus had to be God so that He could pay our debt. Jesus had to be man so He could die. Salvation is available only through faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus’ deity is why He is the only way of salvation. Jesus’ deity is why He proclaimed, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).

Correction: Jesus the Son said that only God the Father knows the end of times. The Son and the Holy Spirit don't know it, only the Father. Jesus is God because He said so at least 7 times in the NT.

Oh yes, you are right!
According to the Holy Bible there is only ONE 'God' !
(New King James Version)
1 Corinthians 8:5 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many gods and many lords),
6 yet for us there is ONE 'God'.

>>>Why do some Christians say that Jesus is God?<<<
Some Christians? ALL Christians believe Jesus is God. Anyone who believes otherwise is believing something other than Christianity.
>>>He never claimed it<<<
And He never denied it.
But the Bible says that He is God in John 1:1.
Also, the Bible tells us that He rose from the dead, that He ascended into heaven under His own power, and did other things that only could be done if He were God.
>>>but did say he didn't know when the end was coming as only God knew that. <<<
He never said He didn't know when the end was coming. He simply refused to reveal it. And He did specifically say that He would return when we least expect Him. Not something He could authoritatively say, if He were not God.

It seems that when a mystic comes and proclaims the path to God, People always end worshiping the Messenger and not God. Silly isn't it.Jesus was a Man like you and I, Early Christianity possessed three main strands: the Jewish one (led by James, Jesus' brother), the Pauline one (created by Paul himself and now represented by the Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches), and the Gnostic one (at least some of whom followed St John, the disciple). It is well within the bounds of possibility that Catharism represented this early tradition. Certainly the Cathars favored the John Gospel over all other scripture.
Many clues in Cathar belief and practice point to extremely early origins (they often retained early Christian beliefs and practices that other strands of Christianity abandoned). Medieval chroniclers seems to have been aware of the antiquity of Catharism.
The Roman Catholic Church was a Political pawn of the Roman Hierarchy and they used their favored position to eliminate the sects that believed that Jesus was a Man, also those who believed that the Reality of Man was that of eternal Spirit and that this is the Material world which must be over come in order to regain our Spiritual union with God.
I can relate to those who were slaughtered for no good reason, after twenty years in search for the truth of my being, I have found Dogmatic Religions to be far off the mark and the New thought movement and Unbiased scientific interpretation of scripture have brought me back to a belief that was virtually wiped out be Catholicism in the name of Heresy. I have yet to forgive that one, I guess I better go back to work on myself......Namaste and Bless you....

What Jesus taught was YOU can know God by accepting the atonement and receiving the Holy Spirit but without this you can't know God..So why ask? No man can know God for you. You can submit yourself to God and then receive the truth through the spirit,
God is greater than flesh and blood...you are correct but somehow you miss the point that truth greater than flesh and blood is revealed only through the spirit.

Jesus is very much God for example let us turn to John 1...
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. ~ John 1:1-2
The Word was God. But who is the Word?
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
The Word became flesh. Sound like anyone we know? Let’s go to the next verse.
John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.’” ~ John 1:15
John the Baptist testified concerning the Word. Who did John the Baptist testify about? Jesus. Now…
God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; ~ Hebrews 1:1-2
So we know God made the worlds through Jesus. Let us read John 1:1-3 again…
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
Through Him, the Word, Jesus all things were made. And God created everything (Genesis 1). Same goes with John 1 the Word is God.
some extra points...
John 9:38, Luke 24:52, Matthew 28:9, Matthew 14:33, Matthew 2:11.
Now the disciples even worshiped Jesus. And we are taught to worship the Lord and serve Him only. The eleven disciples are not going to hell yet they worshiped Jesus. Why would Jesus not stop others from worshiping Him? Jesus would be sinning if he allowed others to worship Him and he was not God.
Also Jesus said "I and the Father are one." ~ John 10:30
Also who can forgive sins except God alone yet Jesus said "your sins are forgiven".
there is more but I think I've overloaded you with scripture :)
God bless and prayerfully consider these points!
May I recommend...
