Is it possible for a guy to make it in music when he has a wife or girlfriend?
My boyfriend is a talented musician and I have every faith that he can accomplish something in that field. However recently his friends have been saying that they aren't sure if he can completely commit to a band because he has a job and a girlfriend (coming up 6 years) and is going to school. We are in a routine that I'm totally happy with, but I know throwing himself into music as completely as he wants to will regress our relationship, and I'm not sure I can handle that. I mentioned going on a break, so he doesn't have to worry about me. I would just hate to have robbed him of the chance of being able to do what he wants. Oh he's 20, so still VERY young. Is it possibly to balance all of those things, without having one of them severely suffer?

Of course you can! Just look at Yoko & John. I have heard that you have to be a bit unhappy to write good songs and that you also need to be a bit selfish to be a top performer as the music requires so much of your time.
I don´t think you need to take a break from the relationship- just give eachother a little space so that he can get on with the music! Also, are you into music as well? That helps! And does he have to work as well....? Pherhaps he could cut back on other things?
But he is as you say VERY young and you might find yourself drifting apart at some time, but no need to cut him loose just yet is there?

They're are many many famous musicians that have stayed in long term relationships, ive been watching for people like that cause it gives me faith me and my bf will always be together cause he is very talented as well.

of course i think he should go for it + you should stay together.
just make time for yourselfs :)
