Atheist, how do fish get in ponds when there are no rivers or streams going to them?
I work in a gravel pit. We dug a big hole in the ground about 10 years ago, and it is now filled with water. We noticed that there is fish living in the water and there is no rivers or streams for miles around are pit. How did the fish get in there? Did they evolve or did God do it? But seriously, how did they get there?
I don't think anyone put them there. We work in this gravel pit and it is gated from the public. I heard of the bird theory with the eggs, but not sure if it is that.
The reason I asked this here is because you get more answers. I have nothing against atheist or theist. I just put that in there so it passes for a religion question.

What kind of fish? How big is the hole? Maybe someone dumped them there.

Mercury levels in fish are determined by the amount of methylated mercury in their environment and food sources. If the pond is polluted with mercury and/or the fish's food is contaminated, they will have a high mercury level. In general, larger, older fish from species higher on the food chain (predators) tend to accumulate more mercury. Farm raised pond fish are usually harvested when they are young, and the diet is completely controlled. Since you are talking about a private pond on your own land, you might ask the geology department at your state university if there is any problem with mercury in the soil or water in your part of the state. If you manage the pond for recreational fishing, the food will likely come from nature. Bream, crappie and panfish are unlikely to have high concentrations of mercury. Large catfish, bass or stripers might, if there is mercury in your environment.

There are birds such as cranes that travel from one pond to another. They could carry fish eggs on their feet and legs, this way new ponds get fish without being stocked. Also, if there is a ditch coming from another pond or creek the fish can travel this way.

If you seriously wanted an answer to this, you'd ask BIOLOGISTS over on biology, not atheists on RELIGION.
Since you're asking here, you're clearly not interested in an actual answer, but in trying to beat atheists with what you imagine is a tricky question. (Even if no atheist could answer it, that would prove nothing.)
There are all manner of ways in which this could happen. Go ask on biology.

Well if it's in a park or something like that, people stock them. As a matter of fact people stock fish in just about every lake or pond.

I have a woman-made decorative pond that happened to. Other creatures carry the eggs -- frogs, lizards, birds that stop to drink at a lake or pond and carry some eggs to the next area.

Dude... Im an ATHEIST... I dont do fish.. or holes.. or pits (unless it's a bar-b-que pit)...
You might instead ask all people, as a group, and hope that someone here on YAs might know the answer...
Or...
You could google it yourself.

I'm sure Jesus walked across the ocean with a handful of fish and put it there. Or maybe aqua man, he's like santa but with gills.

There used to be a river going to the pond?
People put unwanted pet fish there and then they breed?
