"If you have sex, you will get an STD/pregnant" - Who is spreading this nonsense?

I keep hearing people preaching that if you have sex you will get an STD or get pregnant even if you use condoms etc.

Where has this come from? It sounds like something from the 1950s.

I, for one, have been having sex since I was 17 and am now 29 and can say without a lie that I have never been pregnant and never had an STD. Surely it's just a case of taking proper precautions, isn't it?

I think it's the sex education at the moment... In my day we just had a bearded man put a condom on a cucumber... which was a shame, because whenever I got together with a girl that wanted to sleep with me, I never had a cucumber with me... Luckily, at the age of 31, I've now realised what the cucumber represents...

Yes, just don't be stupid and you'll be fine.

mostly rubbish but one std in particular is condom proof and will spread and that is herpes.

also no scientist will say that condoms provide 100% protection against pregnancy.

when talking about under age sexual activity not everyone is as capable as you and sometimes condoms are not used properly.

there has been an alarming rise in std spread in the uk in the 16 - 24 age group.

this no doubt has fuelled a lot of hysteria on the subject.

If you can still get pregnant or even worst get a std, then why are condom here? My grandparents told me this same thing when I was growing up but I know better.

Congrats on not having kids, or a std, you must be doing something right!

Condoms have a fail rate of up to 15% and though the actual level of protection they give against STIs is unclear it is estimated to be only around 50%.

To a degree yes, nonsense, however certain infections can be passed on even when wearing a condom simply through skin-skin contact, they, (condoms) are proven to be less effective for STD's transmitted by skin-to-skin contact, such as human papillomavirus (HPV, the cause of genital warts and cervical cancer) and genital herpes. But I agree with you and your commitment to safe sex.
